Default Factory (Bubba) Mistakes

How about some mistakes that were made right at the factory during Bubbas' shift

Apparently not

Hi M,
I think the screw not penetrating the the reinforcement at that end is pretty typical, if not universal.
It it possible that the reinforcement was drilled for the rivets (the AIM indicates to drill 6 holes) that hold it in place but not for the compartment door hinge mounting screws?
Toward the center the rivets hold the reinforcement firmly enough that the screws can pierce it, but not at that end?
Regards,
Alan

No holes in the 'trough' or wheel well end of the rubber drain?

As I recall, the A/C cars did not get the actuated damper doors on those rear vents. Were they even open on the A/C cars?

The passenger side was open and looks like they trim them when they were molded, drivers side just never got trimmed????

That's a good question, I thought it was just the doors that were swapped for AC cars (mines not AC) and the drain tubes etc were still there

Wonder how many came off the line July 12 1977 like this with the D35 sport mirror package? I like down there if I don't bump it with my leg getting in...Always...

Complete Guesstimation: There were 20206 D35 cars, slightly half of total production. If they averaged 110 cars a day, there could have been about 50 the day your car got them.

I have had my hands on many Corvettes....and I really do not see too many mistakes that would cause me to bash the guys on the assembly line. For the most part...they are fairly consistent.

I have seen the same issue many times where the drill moved the retainer...but that is understandable due to the assembly process...and IF quality control did not worry about it....then the guys on the line would just get their stuff done so the car can go down the line.

Not trying to "bash the guys on the assembly line".

Just thought a thread about little quirks might bring up some neat/different things people have seen over the years.

I was not implying that you were...or stated that you did.

I simply wrote that I did not want to....because I honestly can not think of anything that would be incorrect on numerous Corvettes.

What you showed photo of is one that does occur.

Somebody at the assembly line got crazy with the undercoating material on my '81's firewall. Bubba left his finger on the trigger a little to long.

I'm glad removing all of that mess is done.

Boy.. I can think of a bunch of goofs on the 1978-1982 cars but none were due to bubba.. maybe the bubba design team.

The carpet on the kick panel carpet not fitting, the front and rear bumper cover fitment, the defective glove box door fit, the dash pad rubbing the steering column and squeaking.. I watched the promo video of the 1981 car and snapped some screen shots of the mistakes found.

My 78 bumper cover fit sucks too..

Had a friend that took delivery of an early '76 with deluxe interior that had a black rather than woodgrain console plate.
