So after having to actually learn to use a precision tool I figured out I am actually .046 deck clearance with feeler guages and dial guage so it is what it is. I told Birdsmith last night I went back and read all the way back through this thread the other day and found it now all makes more sense and also found things I completely missed. I guess it's all just part of the learning curve though.
I am hoping to actually get my heads ordered this week, not a high-end head but after research, phone calls, text msgs and hours of trying to figure it all out, I decided to go with aluminum heads that are 64cc chambers. With that said, I should end up in the 9.31:1 ratio range depending on my head gasket thickness. I did speak with a machine shop and they told me the less expensive aluminum heads aren't great but of them they would recomend the Assault brand. I can get those heads, bolts and all delivered to my door for $685 not a bad price on a budget build. After talking to Birdsmith yesterday, I have also decided to upgrade the intake and possibly the carb. Today it is cold but I think I am going to do some cleaning and try to get the engine compartment ready to go, I may also go get the new tranny picked up...
That's a pretty low price for a set of aluminum heads delivered. Do they come with valves, springs, and retainers installed?
Pro comp castings. Junk! Good luck, you get what you pay for sometimes.
Wow! The machine shop turned me on to these and specifically said they were not ProComp and not to buy ProComp. Did he lie to me? I mean I knew they were a cheap head but dang! "Junk?" What does that mean?

Well! I guess I will just have to run them and save up some money for some others! Unless you have another idea? Maybe they would take them back and up sell me. I hate being lied too, I totally went by what the guy told me on this one.
if you're not going to race it , they will be fine, dont get caught up in other folks spending your money...except for 63mako, he knows what he's talking bout, but when you're on a budget run what you can afford

I have no plans on racing it! How have you been oldalaskaman?
From the beginning I have only been looking for a cruiser that made a little racket when I wanted to. As for 63mako, his son is a beast too!

You have them. I have seen some that ran them But there was a guy on here a while back that dropped a seat the first time out and demoed his motor. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c3-t...-tripower.html
Edit: Broke head off valve.
Seen others that ran them 8-10,000 miles with no issues.

I just told my wife they were junk and she "well baby we will just save money and buy you some good ones later" hahaha She is so awesome! Hope the make it for a while!
Here is a test that Car Craft did with a bunch of cheap aluminum heads. Say what you want about the testing, but at least you get flow numbers for each head, on the same flow bench, under identicle conditions.

If your budget is tight the Dart SHP are good for the money. Profiler has a SBC head now. They have been building great BBC heads for years. If $ are not a problem you can't beat AFR but you will pay for them.
