The hole in the back - is for that cable I told you to NEVER forget to install, and the one which, if you incorrectly hook it up to your carb, will burn the transmission up in as little as 20 miles.

The extra few hundred look like a big difference in power on those heads. I wished they tried the eBay specials but that would hurt their ad supporters.

black balancer looks good.... except how are you planning on seeing the timing line when the motor is in the car?
a bit of silver in the slot goes a long way to helping you see the line
I am going to paint the timing line just haven't got to it yet.
Back to the heads, I scuffed the block surface, put sealer around the water jackets and put the heads on. I sure hope you aren't getting ready to tell me I have to pull them and get new gaskets! Ha!

Just kidding! Sheesh! Seriously, though, what gasket did you end up using? And what did you use as a sealer? And, did you use anything to seal the head bolt threads? They go into the water jacket, ya know, and they need to be sealed. Did you by any chance flip the heads over before you installed them, and pour some solvent into the combustion chamber to make sure the valves sealed? Chances are they do, I wouldn't bother to take 'em off to check, but you should have done this before you put them on, just for peace of mind. I know, I know, hindsight is 20/20, isn't it?You are approaching the part of the build where things get tricky......the valvetrain. Take your time, and look before you leap! Having the valvetrain and the distributor set up correctly is crucial to a smooth break-in upon initial start-up. Double and triple check everything! And, as always, don't be afraid to ask stupid questions. You may feel silly asking a dumb question, but think how silly you'd feel if you destroy your engine 5 minutes after you start it up, because you didn't ask! Good luck!

Would rather ask a dumb question and regret the stupidity later! Hahaha!

Good info and good entertainment all in one thread!!
