I am am hoping it’s just a heavy fine. I will find out tomorrow when I call the court house. On my ticket she wrote down statute ordinance 169.13(2). I saw the 100 MPH law that DSOM Z51 posted and those are different section #s. Don't know if that matters or not, but I guess I will find out the verdict tomorrow. Either way looks like I will be in court..

Also, thanks to all that are not flaming me...

Probably though I was going to try and run or something so called in back up (who knows). Anyway, the ticket also does not state what she hit me with (Laser/Radar). I wonder if this was because she was just estimating my speed. However, the ticket does state careless driving (But I got careless for doing 90mph before). After she gave me my ticket she said I can either pay the fine or go fight it in court, but all the ticket has is a court date. If anyone in MN has been pulled over in the tripe digits, please let me know the fine cost. I cannot currently find that out since all the court houses are closed.

This is what happens when you just bring the car out of storage and start to push it. Time for me to keep it on the tack...
Time for you to get better equipment and defend yourself.
Your goal should be to defend yourself and WIN. If there is no evidence of your speed, prove this.

Default You can beat this....if

It's reckless driving if you are caught going in excess of 100 mph.

The question is ...How did the officer come up with that number ? In your case it was 110 ..

There are three ways ....
1. Radar ...radar is good if the highway has been surveyed for radar and the traffic going in your direction is minimal. The officer should have written on the ticket that radar was used. If that was the case make sure the highway engineering studies are brought to court and the radar machine calibration certificates are valid.

2. Pace ..if the officer saw your vehicle speeding and gave chase , she would have to come up to your blind side bumper and clocked you for at least a 1/4 mile. Make sure she can state where the pace began and ended. Ask for her vehicle speedometer calibration certicate in court.

3. Professional estimate ...The officer , if she is a Highway Patrol officer , can state she is a traffic expert based on the number of times she has written reckless driving and speeding tickets. The judge will allow her testimony if he deems her qualified as an expert in his court. She can say she saw your car speeding and based upon her experience and expertise estimated your car was traveling 110 mph.

Never , Never , NEVER , tell the officer what you think what you were doing , IE: " Officer , I wasn't doing 110 mph , I was only doing 95 when you stopped me. " At the very least the court knows you were driving a dangerous speed. They'll take the officers side every time , since the officer has no personal stake in your punishment.

You have received excellent advice from this Forum. Hire an attorney who does nothing , but traffic work at the courthouse your going to. The lawyer will know the judges and courtroom staff and your chances of receiving reduced punishment will be greatly increased. This is usually the guy who does nothing but DUI cases .DUI's are usually reduced to Reckless and Reckless to Unsafe Speed. You want the latter. Traffic fine and traffic school..Good luck

Its not the car we are talking about... 110 reduces your reaction time to a catastrophic event to almost zero... at 110, the braking distance is astronomical and the chances of a fatal accident increase exponentially.... just because the car can "handle" the speed, doesn't make it safe on an open road.... freeways are full of debris; nails, wood, tire shreddings, etc.... you hit one at 110 and your tire blows!? Bye Bye Birdie!!

And I am not a hypocrate... I havn't gone that fast in my Z and I don't plan on it..... Don't need to go that fast... accelerate quickly? hell yeah, all the time... but go fast on a poorly maintained highway and risk my life, others lives, and my car? hell no...

Crap, a Hyundai Elantra can go 120 MPH... top speed doesn't impress me... its how you get up to a safe speed that impresses me about the cars...

If those of you who speed around at 100+ on the freeways... just think about the above... if you don't care about other people being around, or even cops... think about that watermelon truck 8 miles ahead of you that dropped that fruit in your lane that you cant see till its too late... or even worse, that construction truck that just dropped a couple of nails/screws that you cant see... you hit that at 110 and your toast...

I have faith in my car and my ability to drive... but there are things you cant avoid, no matter how well trained you are or how "bitchin" of a car you have.... think about that

As for court... get a lawyer... if its your lucky day, you might keep your license, but forget about the trip to Vegas... your money is going to the state!!

Í'm sorry, i disagree. You're Corvette can brake from 110 just as fast as that hundai can from 75 or 80. With an alert driver, a car such as the corvette i feel is safe at 100+ as compared to the many beaters going 80+ on the high way. As for hitting a nail and losing it. Again i disagree. With the tire technologies of today, just because you get a flat doesn't mean your tire is shredding off, esp. if you're running run flats. I've gone 178mph on a motorcycle on the street, and again 175 in the vette. Does that mean there was other traffic around? no. Was it day light? yes. Did i slow down before catching up to any other traffic? yes. Did i endanger ANYBODY besides myself? Absolutely NOT.

Guys, you dont even feel you are doing 100 mph. I often go to Germany and I am doing way over 150 mph all the time and I feel great. Everybody is drving fast over there and they have less mortality than other european countries.
You can go over the speed limit and if the road is empty with nobody there, you wont kill anyone
I dont know how some of you can flame a guy who was just driving his car like it is meant to be

Good luck to you

Florida - december '05 heading to Miami to pick up a viper (gave my friend a ride) Blew by a cop at 130 on I-95. He didn't even bother chasing me. On the way home, we took the FL turnpike late at night. We didn't drop below 110mph between pit stops for several hundred miles. Of course, at 140 my friend's targa top on his viper started acting funny, so we had to limit our speed...

South Dakota - September '04 - AVERAGED 94mph across the entire state.

I've never gotten a ticket in my Z. Got a warning once in Kansas. That's it so far - knock on wood. I don't even have a radar detector. been meaning to get a V1 forever... I guess I just have good instincts about where the fuzz is. hehe

Good luck in court!
Just like me. I hope the luck stay with you

Chris

100 mph with light traffic on an open road is really no big deal. Also at those speeds most drivers are more focused on driving than sightseeing. At the posted limit it's more difficult to keep focused on driving because everything moves so slow. The general flow of traffic around here is usually 10 to 25 over posted speeds. My .02
