Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting....."holy ****...what a ride !!"

You said it better than anybody!!!!!!!!!! I retired at 58-for 3 months-went back to work-will work till I "skid in sideways"
It doesn't have to be that way. By the grace of God I happened to see a segment on Good Morning America about two months ago about aging and symptoms of a treatable insufficiency. I asked my doctor to run a simple blood test, the numbers came back out of whack low and I started treatment a week ago. The result was immediate and spectacular. I feel better than I have in, literally, ten years. If you are 55 or older and some of the posts in this thread apply to you, PM me and I will tell you what the GMA feature was about and what to ask your doctor to check. You decide if you want to have your physician take a look at it. I'm not selling anything and I'm for sure not qualified to diagnose anything, and I am not trying to do so. But I am absolutely certain that aging does not have to be the way so many of us have been led to believe that that's just the way it is. It turns out that's .
Count your blessings....you have a Corvette, you can write on the forum anytime and you are on the right side of the dirt. just start laughing about all the things that used to seem important and weren't.
I'll be 64 next month and enjoying every minute of it. My family and everyone else said I was a workaholic and would never enjoy any of the things I thought I was working for, but here I am mostly retired with 2 vetts and anything else I really want. I am going to get a 08 this fall as I am sure the kids will spend what is left. I am really lucky as I crashed my Harley last August going 70 MPH and I am still here and walking. I now have a new appreciation for life that I never had and not at all afraid of death as it is just like going to sleep when you are tired. I sure don't feel old when I am in my corvette. Enjoy it when we can and hope to slide in sideways.
I'm 62, retired and very thankful that I have enough health and wealth to enjoy owning 2 vettes, having a great wife, and living in the best country in the world. My Dad said getting old beats the alternative, up to a point that is.
Bob... Hope things continue to go well with your health... BTW...How come you only look like you are 40?
Yello95,
Thanks for kind words, I really appreciate them. I look at it as one of life's large speed bumps that I've put behind me.
Actually the photo was taken a 2 years ago so I was much younger, 52... My Dad died at 40 and my Mom at 50 so it's up to me to go the distance.
The paint job's still pretty good and the drive train still hasn't skipped a beat so I'm heading out to 85 or so. When I get there I'll let you all know how things are going....
Will be 68 next month. People think I'm mid 50's!!! In my opinion, you're not old till you think and act old. No need to slow down if you eat reasonably right and continue to have vigor and a love of a good life. And, oh yeah-- a glass of good wine every day helps too!!!
I am 66 yrs old. Just bought a 98 red Vette conv. 6 months ago. I also have two Kaw Mean Streaks, one bagged up and the other I run at the strip on test and tune nights. It runs high 11s. I taught PE and coached for 32 years and always stayed in pretty good shape. Only problem is two metal hips becuause I played basketball untill 55. Since retiring I went on a health food diet, ride my bicycle 1 hr a day 5 days a week and work out at the YMCA 3 or 4 times a week on the machines. When I weighed 185, had high colosterol and BP. Now weigh 168 and almost off all medication. Went back to the weight I was at 30 yrs old. You young guys, if you start now taking an hour a day for aerobics and resistance training 4 or 5 times a week, get off all the fast foods etc, no reason you can't be doing the same things you are now 40 years from now. Only problems I have is being a little stiff in the morning. I am not preaching, just thought I would share what I taugh for 32 years. Just remember what Dean Martin said, "if I would have know I would live this long, I would have taken better care of myself." Mike
I'm 25 and my insurance isnt that much more than yours lol.
He's paying $234 for 6 months... I'm surprised your's insn't much more than his at your age. What ins company are you with? Is it just libility or full coverage? Curious, cuz I'd love to get cheaper ins... I'm 32 btw.
i agree with you giuy's - i ran pretty hard all my life - haven't missed a whole bunch - but i'm slowing up, i hate it but i'm am - I bought another goldwing a couple of days ago - i'll be leaving on bike trip monday - Ca to Spokane - hook up with a riding buddy there - over the Cascade range to Seattle - visit my daughter & Seattle for a couple of days - down to Mt ST Helen - over to the coast - hwy 1 down to Ft Bragg? maybe on down to golden Gate before heading back home - should be a fun trip - just depends on the heat - but the coast should be pleasent - tom
play Bingo, go to movies, the home brings in entertainment, the local animal shelter visits with dogs, cats, and bunnies. they really have a good time....
Sounds like you did well for her.
When I find those things fun instead of driving my Vette, then it is time to go join them. I'll be the old guy telling the nurses about the Vette I drove, and they will all be trying to act like they believe me.
I'm 25 and my insurance isnt that much more than yours lol.
Do you have full coverage? Do you have a clean driving record? How many things do you have on that policy? How much do you pay? I thought his was damn cheap, if its full coverage and nothing else on the policy but the VETTE.
Seems like I am one of the old guys at almost 65. Except for the usual aches and pains in the morning, I feel great thanks to life saving heart valve and aortic surgery last year to correct a birth defect. Facing death is a very big perspective builder. Make every day count. Spend time with family and friends and make sure they know how much you love them. Live a healthy lifestyle, exercise regularly and I for one plan on driving my 08 crystal red coupe every clear day this winter even though I live in the northeast.
I must not be quite as old as you,,,but,,,my back does hurt from a rough day at work, don't yet need that pill you are talking about,, still have a full head of hair, etc. but we both have VETTES and my back quits hurting whenever I get in it
P.S. Looking forward to being "too" old!
Read most of these postings on this thread...valid points, and yes health is important good foods, exercise, drive the vette..lol...
