I tell everyone that old age is not for sissies...
I'll be 54 in a couple of months, here's me and my Z06 last summer.
Life is a journey and since no one has a crystal ball the future is uncertain. There are no guarantees, no road maps, and your successes are what you have made.
Several years ago I was going through life without incident. My wife and I have two kids, home, all what I consider a normal life, when without warning, I was diagnosed with cancer, talk about getting slapped!!
I was 47 at the time and suddenly realized this thing we call life is not permanent and there is a finality to it. I had 2 different kinds and so far everything's fine, I beat both of them. I guess the old saying does hold some truth; only the good die young. Looks like I'll be around for a long, long time.
Enjoy the ride......
Just remember, no one gets off this planet alive....
Bob... Hope things continue to go well with your health... BTW...How come you only look like you are 40?
all you young guys out there - please don't buy into this thing about how great your golden years will be - sure if you get lucky & retire you might not have to drag out of bed in the AM and head to work - my feet hurt - my back hurt - i have half the hair i use to have - my ***** takes much more time off then he use to - even have to buy him a special pill to keep him happy - hair grows like wild fire in my ears - well thats about all i have to say about that - t
PS one good thing - my insurance is only $234.00 for 6 mo's for my 02 - so i guess the above is all worth it
I am 61 and am lucky to own an O2 Z06 and a 65 vert and I am going to retire in Jan and really enjoy the time off to drive the cars more!!!
Hmmm....I may grow old but I refuse to grow up. I retired at 52 last July. Did the whole corporate thing. I just picked back up at 18 where I left off when I started my career in Govt. Sure, I have aches and pains that I didn't have back then but basically I'm healthy and life is good!! I have a beautiful young wife...blessed with three "teens"...bought two C5's, a chopper and grew a pony tail. Best thing, since every day is Saturday I can get up when I want and do what I want to do....mostly mod the C5's.
Life is a blessing..there are no gurantees. The career was serious...now it's time to "smell the roses" and have some fun.
Best wishes to each of you for a happy, healthy, long life. Hope to see ya down the road.
Hang in there, good buddy. We are as good as we feel, AND, still well hung, thank you very much!
this is another on that rips my ars up "Your only as old as you feel since this is the way i feel today & i have never felt this way before i guess i feel 60? i do know if i feel this way at 60 - - - - 100 is going to be hell - but then again i haven't been to hell yet either - well there was that one night in Bosie
I plan to drive my Vette until all you see is blue hair and knuckles.
-evil grin-
I'm the 'old guy' in the staging lanes.. the one cuttin .01 - .05 lights and runnin within .01 every pass of my dial in.
(ya .. I red lite now an then.. if you don't yer not tryin hard enough
I park my Vette every day in a Nursing Home parkin lot .. that's where I work.. and I will continue working there till I cannot.
I am a Nurse.
My black Vette *is* my exercise program ..it keeps me flexible keepin it shiny ..and its gotta be shiny ..cause it looks *so* good when it is
I do feel sorry for the young of today .. not many have had the pleasure of owning/drivin a Hemi GTX 4-gear car gettin 4mpg when Sunoco was a quarter a gallon.. or an L-88 powered '65 chevelle that was a Daeco baby (13:1 compression fun) and would bend yer teeth back in first gear I drove it to work an back, even my wife did.
I get a huge smile every time I hear someone talkin about how 'fast' their Honda is.
Think of all the people we lost that were denied the privilege of gettin old.
When I start to feel a little sorry for myself, I think of my buddies who never had the opportunity to grow old. I'm sure they'd give anything to be here to have a sore back, a bald head or a beer belly. Somehow, my little aches and pains seem rather insignificant.
I don't plan on getting old...I'm going to do everything I can to fight the aging process....even though I'm still really young now. But I think working out and finding someone who is fun will keep me young in the long run.
If genes have anything to do with it, I'll look even better when I'm 50 because people think my mom is my sister! To me, age is nothing but a #. Besides, older men are attractive!

Thankfully with my bad back I don't ever have to worry about getting out to fill up. Here in Oregon NOBODY is allowed to get their own gas. So it's very nice when the weather sucks and you get to stay in your car.
Heck, I'm only 40 years old and already on PERMANENT Disability. My back is wasted because of 9 car accidents. (only two were my fault way back in the late 80's) I blew my left knee out in '97 doing a "back spinning round house" at a Tae Kwon Doe Competition. And, I've had an upper denture for the last 18 years.
But, even though I have a bad back and a re-constructed left knee, I still have a full head of hair, (and NO grey) and yes my ***** still stays up all night in the company of a specially lady. I didn't really think I'd have my first Vette till I was 50, so I guess things are all that bad for me. I am limited to how much activity I can do with my back and knee, but for the most part I can still turn a wrench pretty well.
Growing old doesn't neccessarily suck, it's just those painful mornings and evenings that make it hard to get moving. I think the 27 years of smoking has a lot to do with my feeling old and winded as well.
A quote from one of my customers "Charlie , I've got silver in my hair , gold in my teeth and lead in my a$$ don't let anybody fool you these are the metallic years and they are kicking my a$$ !!" .
