I just installed my ipod2car today. I ordered my cables from cardomain and ended up using the PXHGM1 and GMH20T Harnesses. I bought the belkin car adapter but it was garbage so I modified it to work with the ipod2car cable. When I am not using the ipod I can push the cable in to the ashtray area and put the belkin mount in the hatch area. It sounds awesome!
I bought the GM iSimple from BestBuy. The packaging says it is compatible with the '97-04 corvette but once you open the packaging you'll find that the cables provided only work if you have the CD changer option.
If you don't have the CD changer you will also need to buy the GMH20T or the discontinued PHXGM4 (if you can find one). I don't have the CD changer so I got the GMH20T from discountcarstereo.com
The product is great. I can control the iPod from the iPod (some interfaces disable the iPod buttons) and I can use the factory seek buttons to skip forward and back in a playlist or within a song.
I just picked the isimple up at Best Buys. I am assuming neither of the isimple or ipod2car allow both the ipod and the changer to be installed simultaneously and one or the other selected.

As far as I know, it's either one or the other. But I don't need CD's when I can store sooooooooooooooooo many songs on my IPOD.
wow I am done already from installing the isimple in my 2000 vette with factory head unit. 15 minutes or so.
I have the cd changer in the trunk thus it took the pxhgm2 cable.
When at BB make sure you get the one for GM vehicles. They had Asian car models there also. The boxes are similar but with a sticker.
At Best Buys they had the isimple and the ipod2car adapter. I had them side by side and they were the same unit. even the molding curves and design on the case were molded the same. Even the glue on name plate was similar only with a different "name."
The packaging was the only real difference.
The isimple unit came with:
-the converter
-the 12ft cable from the converter to the ipod. very sturdy and clipped well to the ipod.
-the pxhgm1, pxhgm2, and pxhgm3 cables for the various connection configurations.
I will need to work on how i want to mount.

well, install it already
where are going to mount the Ipod?
I'm going to mount mine in the console after I insulate the tunnel for heat, plan on doing mine up tomorrow
let me know how yours works out Steve
I jsut ordered the correct cable for mine from the eBay seller for another $35.00 He will refund me the $8 for the first cable he sent me when I return it.
Still MUCH cheaper than the $80 CD changer cable from GM!

I THINK this question has to do with the CD Changer and its cable in the trunk. But if you leave the trunk electronics alone, and plug the IPOD2CAR into the head unit, can you still use your CD changer from the trunk? Sorry if this is obvious (maybe the cable you unplug in the head unit IS the trunk changer cable?)...but want to make sure.
I predict a flood of CD Changers on ebay soon (without the cable)!
From: PHOENIX, AZ Yes, it's true. You are a good woman. Then again, you may be the Antichrist.

I just installed mine today and it's great having my whole audio collection available in the vette. VERY EASY install with the cd changer in the rear.
I'm still undecided about where to mount the ipod though. Looking for ideas (30 gig)...

I think i will stick mine in the console or wire it for the cup holder, not sure yet. I have the 8gig nano.
Do they make any other connectors other then iPod? I have a Razor phone with 2 gig of memory that does what I want. Don't want to buy an ipod. The razor uses a USB plug that I have a cassette adapter for my other car. It would be cool if they would come up with a Blue Tooth set up.

Hi Bill,
There is also an
Aux2car that can plug into the pherifels adapter box.
This little lead has a 3.5mm stereo jack on the end, so you can plug it into a standard mp3 player.
I installed mine today, and the sound quality is great, just as good as a CD. The CD controls on the head unit work, going back is a bit flaky, you have to hold the button down and there is a slight lag until it goes to the next song. I can still use the in-dash CD as well if i wanted too, but all my CDs are on the ipod now.
I curse the SOB who designed the fuel door release wiring harness connector or did not give enough slack.
I just installed the ipod2car and PXHGM4 today. I have the 30g and I have it wired to the console.
I insulated the tunnel while I had everything out for any heat issues and have enough play in the wire
so I can place it in the cup holder or just push any excess wire back into the inner console.
mounted the ipod2car on top of what I believe is the airbag module with some double sided tape
filed a slot next to the accessory outlet
thanks to Humanoid and Cozmo for their input and help
I insulated the tunnel as well with just a few pieces, I did not cover it as well as you. I Velcroed the ipod2car unit on the bracket below the clement control (shown in your pic) and just above that module. Also I cut out a notch in the side of the console to bring the wire in. I wanted to orientate the ipod so I could see it right side up without having to bend the wire. I left enough slack so I could pull it out and get a cup holder, holder for it if I wanted.
I did not take note of the sticker on the front of the instructions; it so happened to be there was a correction for the DIP positions for the GM install that applied to the Vette. That had me scratching my head because after I corrected it you also need to disconnect the ipod2car when you change the DIP settings.
This is probably a stupid question, but I was assuming you could run the cable under the rug in the trunk (CD Changer mod, here) and up into the console, and snake it either with one hole into the console compartment, or continue up towards the cup holder and come out there. I was thinking of using a thick wire as a snake. The last insulation pics make me now realize I may have to remove the entire console. Is that true? (see, I finally got to the stupid question!)
Here's another question for ya, do you have to remove the radio to plug the cord in the back? I've had my bezel off a couple times, to put in a new shifter and e-brake handle/boot. But haven't removed the radio/climate control unit yet. My aux2car kit should get here in a few days from discountcarstereo!!! Thanks!

Thanks.
Removing the console would probably be the easiest way. Just follow the instructions in the link below about installing a shifter up to the point of the console removal. Excellent instructions written by Patches.

I think if you had really tiny hands you may be able to leave it in there. I removed mine. Just 4 bolts in the front holding it in. Remove them and slide it out.

Cool. So you just remove the bolts, pull it out, & connect the harness?
How did you route the wire, behind the HVAC?
I'm just gonna run the wire to the ash tray until I figure out how i'm gonna permanently mount it.
