I just got a package delivered from car domain. I opened it to find an extra PXHGM4 that I had ordered back in March. If anyone wants it, let me know. I will sell it to you for $15 shipped.

How did you route the wire, behind the HVAC?
I'm just gonna run the wire to the ash tray until I figure out how i'm gonna permanently mount it.
Once you get the console and the radio out, it will be really obvious how to route the wires. I tucked the IPOD2CAR and left over cable behind the ash tray. I used a cable tie to tie them to another harness back there so it wouldn't rattle around.

Not trying to highjack the thread, but can any of you IPOD2Car gurus help me out? I've had the IPOD2Car for a little over a year. this weekend I can't get any sound from the ipod even though it appears to be playing. I unplugged the IPOD2Car from the cd harness in the trunk and let it sit overnight, but when i reconnected it did not help. Should i pull the radio fuse in an attemp to reset it? Thanks.

Sounds good. I can't wait for it to get here. Time to join the 21st century.

I would think that should have done it. It certainly won't hurt to pull the fuse and try it.

Check the DIP swtich settings just to be sure none of them moved.
I think if you had really tiny hands you may be able to leave it in there. I removed mine. Just 4 bolts in the front holding it in. Remove them and slide it out.
Well, if it's that easy, is there that much advantage in using the trunk CD Changer cable instead of plugging in the back of the HU? Does it still allow the trunk changer to work if you plug the iPod directly into the head unit, or are you just disconnecting the CD changer at a different location in the system?

I too don't understand why they don't just always hook up to the HU. Is there something different at the HU based on whether or not the car has the CD changer option? I can't imagine so... so why do they even make a cable to plug into the CD changer plug? Doing so adds immeasurably to the confusion surrounding this product and its installation.
Or, then again, maybe I don't know what I'm talking about. I remember when I bought mine a year ago my choice was between one cable for cars that had the CD changer cable routed to the trunk (whether or not the changer itself was installed), or a different cable if no CD changer cable was present.
Which suggests that there is some difference at the HU.

There must be something different with the cables coming out of the HU. Perhaps there is a split of the cable with different wires that goes out to the trunk changer? Maybe some signals are terminated there?

Not necessarily, but that's my question. The difference in where you plug it in could just be one of convenience. I would rather just (1) unplug the changer in the trunk and plug in a cable, then route it up through the console, than (2) undo and remove the radio/HU. But our questions relate to whether the signal from the iPod eventually goes into the same input jack on the head unit...and I'm starting to think that it does. Therefore, whether you do the head unit thing, or the changer in the trunk thing...you still lose the use of the changer in the trunk.

After giving this some thought, I am thinking that the PXHGM4 cable opens up the connection and sends part of it on to the amplifiers and speakers, the other part goes to the IPOD2 car. That would be why there are 3 connections.
The PXHGM2 connector connects at the end of the cable trail where the connecor plugs into the CD changer. It ends at the IPOD2CAR.
I just got my iSimple for GM cars on Monday and took apart my console to connect it to the back of the radio, this took about an hour to an hour and a half because of small complications, then once I got everything out and ready to hook everything up I realized that there was a much easier way , hook it up through the CD changer in the back. I went to the back got the right cord, set the presets for the interface and hooked everything up and WALA music (in total 15 minutes including searching online for the right cord to use and presets for the interface) Now I get to put my entire console back together. I would have been kind of ticked off but I was excited to get the thing to work. I would have to agree that it is an amazing mod and anyone that has an iPod should do it. I love watching snowboarding movies during my break for work and listening through the car speakers

Sorry about your complications. That's what this forum is about, brother. This thread is all about CD changer vs. radio connections for the iPod!
I'm buying my iSimple from Best Buy today or tomorrow, and the iPod over the weekend. iSimple seems to come with the cradle, so that helps. It's packaged with the cable for the CD Changer, the cradle, and that same Peripheral Electronics module. As previously posted. $99.99 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....3&type=product

Yeah, it was a stupid mistake on my part... story of my life haha
If you have a CD changer its really easy just plug and play pretty much. as for the presets for the interface I believe only #3 and 8 are on and as far as the cable you use the one with a "2" at the end (I dont have the cables or cable #'s with me at work) but check on the website before you do anything to make sure all this info is correct. I am not a 100% reliable source haha
