I'm Really interested in what the finished product here looks like. I'm deffinately looking to replace the crummy headlights my Z06 came with. I'm most interested in a Factory Quallity HID system. If that means D2S then so be it. Would this fixation be compatible with those capsules?
It's distinctly possible. I'm planning on converting my E55 projector setup to work with the new shrouds and lenses. My E55's are Bi-xenon and have ZKW replica water-clear lenses. If there's enough demand I may offer that as a MAJOR upgrade. The only catch is that it MAY require some cutting into the wheel-well.
I was my understanding that 4300K was what all factory HID headlight systems were. Just in my opinion, they don't look anything like halogen bulbs. What I want is the brightest, whitest system, with little or no hint of blue. It is also my understanding that when you start getting in to colors that is where you start losing lumens and I also read somewhere that 4300K had the highest lumens.

You want 4300. 4300 Kelvin is the color temp of direct sunlight. This color temp choice will also result in the most lumens emitted from a HID setup, all other things being equal.

This is true for 35w kits. however 55w HIDs push the amperage higher resulting an a color that leans about 300-500K towards the red end of the spectrum. For instance 4300K looks very much like halogen. 5000K looks like 4300K color in 35w and 6000K looks very white. For high wattage kits, 5000K would be the highest lumens.

55w version is sky white (mid-day clear sky)

Once again true for 35w kits. As far as I know, I'm not aware of any OEM 55w setups in production automobiles.
I have 6000K bulbs in my SW C5R lights and there is quite a bit of blue noticible. Just enough to know there's a difference from white. However it is extremely drastic compared to my halogen high beams. I would give my vote to 6000K and 5000K in lose 2nd. I'm interested to see a final product as it might get me to switch lights. I really like that halo look! I think the bezels still need work for me to male the switch however.
On a side note, my opinion would be the mass between the projects needs to be taken down and flatter in the front of the lights. Looks like there's just 2 holes drilled out of the solid mass for the projectors. Gives the "lens" no purpose but to protect the lights from debris. Keep at it!
Guy's trust me a 5K in a projector will have plenty of blue in it. I have had just about every style or lumen HID available 5K put's out great light and still looks really good. I will take pix of the 5K in projectors in my Escalade, I will post them soon.

I took your advice and requested 55W 5000K for my SLC's (I have never had a car with HID's before). If I dont like them, I will blame you!

Lol
Trust me you will love them!! A 55W 5K HID will put out ALOT of light, the road will look like it's totally white. Here is a pic of my projector HID's on the freeway.
Keep in mind these are not the quality projectors that we will be getting with RF's projectors. But those pictured are 5K 35W HID's. I will get pix from the front so you can see the color.
Here's a couple pix of my Escalade (I know sorry, not great pix) but it shows you even at 5K how much blue they still have in them. However on the road they look really white. The low beams and fog lights are both 5K, but the low beams are in a projector housing.

It was my understanding that sunlight is composed of this HUGE spectrum of light (UV, visible, IR, etc). Heck, there is even a chart that shows it.
Who woulda thought all this time that sunlight is 4300K?
Yes, Sunlight IS a huge SPECTRUM of light. 4300 Kelvin in mearly a color temperature. Light spectrum and temperature are not the same measurement. Light spectrum is measured in Hertz ie frequency. From infared to ultraviolet. Long wave lengths to short wave lengths. Color temperature is, simply put, the appearance, or how we see the light.
Those of you NOT on the GP, but considering purchasing, what HID color do you prefer?
4300K: halogen colored
5000K: pure white
6000K: sky white (most popular so far)
8000K: iceburg blue
With my crappy night vision, I want as many lumens as I can get! So if you say that 5000K in a 55w HID is the most lumens, that that's what I'd want when I buy. I couldn't care less about the color, it's all about maximum output, baby!
Options list (some prices have beeen updated to use better materials):
CCFL Halos: $100
CCFL "evil" halos: $200 (3/4" ring showing)
Audi LED strip (white or amber): $100
100w halogen high beam upgrade: $40
Toshiba Halogen Infrared Bulb 65w high beam upgrade: $75
I will not be offering an HID high beam because initial testing did not show a significant change in brightness between halogen and HID. I believe this is due to the reflector focal point.
I will have the prototype Audi style LED strips available for testing in about 1-2 weeks when the first shrouds and lenses are finished. Thee good news is they also come in amber so they can be wired to be used as turn signals AND DRLs.

Would you be able to show pictures of the different opetions? The amber option so they can be used as turn signals is one that I am especially interested in.
Thanks, looking forward to seeing the final product and being able to install.
My supplier currently is out of stock on the amber ones. He's expecting them back in stock in about 3 days. I will order a prototype for testing.
