Bill - first and foremost, I pray that your health returns and you are out there with all of us enjoying your Vette this summer (if this winter EVER ends).
I have only been on CF a short time compared to you, but in that time I have learned that you are one of several stalwarts on here that have more C5 knowledge and experience than most and are very willing to share it. In fact, I've read hundreds, if not thousands, of your posts and threads and I'm not sure I ever remember one where you were asking for help. You were always there giving help. I, for one, want to thank you for sharing your knowledge and helping to make CF the great forum that it is.
I hope that you have found more positive here than negative and will remain a part of CF. You have a lot to offer and there are many who appreciate it.
But you need to do whatever is right for you. Whatever you do, I wish you well.
Heck he can be an ole cantankerous codger, but that's just icing on the cake. Some people are too busy or think too much of themselves to realize that this is about the most difficult way to read a post and then get exactly what the OP meant or said.
Then the sparks fly and usually for the most inane reasons.
Bill/E.T. is far too valuable a resource to blow off and if he leaves, and we all do one day that will be a great loss to all of us.
as a car nut my entire life, i don't mind the c7 but my favorite street cars of all time are not new. they are the ferrari f40 and ford gt
i think those of us who see automobiles as 100 years of history aren't wow'd as much by each new gadget and see cars more like art.
some of the best paintings are not the newest
i can look at each generation of corvette and pick a favorite
the c5 z06 and c6 grandsport/z06/zr1 are probably my two favorite styles of all time when it comes to corvette.
the new c7 just seems too over the top for me. the new z06 has more power than you can ever hope to put down on street tires, the styling is catering to the latest trend. i think gm probably made a good move for marketing and i like the car, i just don't see it as being the car for me.
I share most of your opinions about the C7. It has too many sharp edges and to me a first glance screams 240Z.
Now, now, no casting aspersions on the 240Z. My favorite car of all those I've owned (well, until the Corvette) was my '75 280Z. It was already 10 years old when I bought it and I had to use an old cookie pan to cover the rust hole in the driver's side floorboards. But I loved that car - the first generation Datsun Z is a classic! Sold it after 3 years because, well . . . it was car seat time. I would love to have a first generation Z again.
K9Leader Red cars are faster. They did a study on it.

I had a 78 280Z that I bought in 81 with 31,000 miles. I absolutely loved that car. Wasn't much to it. Roll up windows, and manual steering. The only options mine had were factory air and a 5-speed (4-speeds were standard equipment). I came out of a 78 Trans-Am to buy the Z which was what I wanted when I bought the T/A but couldn't afford new. I think they were about $9,000 new then. I sold that car 5 years later with well over 100,000 miles (and still no rust) and had two prospective buyers fighting over it. Was a great car.
I was trying to hold on to the forum to help me with my sanity, but obviously I cant. Many who are close to me here know that I have cancer and for all the time I've spent in the hospital this year in critical care, and the surgeries I've had, I thank those who emailed me or texted me or called me. I am heavily medicated. I apologize to the forum and Ill will now bow out. it has always been my pleasure to try to help people on this forum but for some reason or maybe it s the medication, people seem to be kicking me more than ever and now that IM down I'm lashing back more than I ever have.
I hope the forum lives forever, I also hope I can get another chance to drive my car. My wife has been driving me around. I saw that C7 while in the passengers seat of my wife's car. My car has been tucked away in the garage.

Bill...all of your friends here(including me) on the forum are praying for you...F the rest of the idiots...
God Bless Evil-Twin
The C7 is just ... busy. It just has way too much going on. I have a hard time focusing in on it and figuring out what it is because there is just too much happening.

No aspersions from me. I liked the 240z....it was just what it should have looked like in the 70s......not what any Corvette should look like.
I think the C5 looks better next to the C7 than the C6 does. IMHO. Especially one that is updated. Little things like the C5 hood and front bumper make the C5 look refreshing still. The c6 looks so dated, its not even funny and no matter how much i try and like it because it was the "latest and greatest", I couldnt. The widebody C6 looks alot better than the base but at this point, I'd rather find a C7 in a few years. ~$12k for a C5 vs $60k for a C7, I think wait a bit.
Interesting. I really only think of C1's as 'Beach Boys' types of cars. Maybe C2 convertibles, but definitely not a C5. Half of the group was dead when the C5 was produced.
Your right about the time era of the cars and Beach Boy songs! The "shutdown" song was about a race between a stingray of 63-65 vintage and a "413" superstock which would have been "mopar" probably 61-62 wedge with 2-4's. Brian Wilson,Al Jardine,Mike love and Bruce Johnson are very much alive however and still making music! Dennis Wilson died in the mid 80's from a head injury suffered in a diving accident and Carl Wilson died from a brain tumor. I saw his last performance They were truly one of the greatest bands of all time.

Getting back to ET's initial post, I do agree that the C7 is not immideately identified on the road, but I do think it is a cool car. It may be because I'm just not used to seeing them yet and don't have the familiarity that I have with the C5. However ( being on older Vette owner), it's a bit 'edgy' for me. I also agree that I can spot a C5 coming down the road from half a mile away, no mistake. I believe it is all personal taste, and that's why many of us on this portion of the forum hold tight to our C5s. I cranked over 100K this symmer, pulled over and took a picture of the odometer. Also, I am not a fan of too much technology in a car that I want to cruise in with the roof off. I want a true driving experience. Very happy with my C5 as I'm sure most owners of most generation are happy with theirs.
PS - ET - I work in healthcare and understand the battle you are dealing with. Best wishes and prayers and hope you're back on the road soon! Stay strong! Zuti

Kind of off topic, but a cool era! Don't forget Jan and Dean's Dead Man's Curve! Love the original Sting Rays!
Saw my second C7 last night...mostly just the side and rear as he passed me on the street.
Gotta admit.....those tailights are WICKED looking at night. Liked it.
Funny the driver didn't do anything to get my attention as he/she passed. I was in my C5. Wish they woulda given a little toot on the horn as I didn't see 'em coming up.

100% ... I'm perfectly happy with my C5 vert cruising along rowing thru the gears with the top down listening to the Corsa's .. oh and of course listening to Beach Boys, Jan & Dean among others !!
hated c5's when they came out and now wife has two and i like them . don't like the back of c7's and front , grill area , reminds me of an earlier camaro . i do think them to be a good buy performance wise compared to some of the other really costly sporty cars . . .peace .......ps. hey , evil twin take care of yourself as i enjoy your posts .

I've found that I don't have enough seconds in my life to waste on people who only try to bring me down. If someone posts in a manor that bothers me, I simply move on to the next one. Let Trolls be Trolls. Those that have a different opinion are entitled to them, those that I feel interesting enough, or knowledgeable enough to debate with, let's debate... but let's debate, not insult.
Spend what time and energy we're given helping those you want, and ignoring those who deserve it.
God bless with your cancer.
On another note, I love the C7. The rear end had to grow on me, but I like where it is. I still love my C5, and I will NEVER sell it... it's mine... it is more than a car to me. I'd love to have a C7 Z06 sitting next to it in the garage though.
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
