Im just adding to the it CAN be pulled from the top and with the hood still on.
But technically the engine is supposed to come out of the bottom of the C5. The cradle is 4 bolts, the upper shock mount, and the upper a-arms and it comes right down, or as it supposed to go the body goes up.
I thought about it but sitting on the quickjack I didn't know if it would clear coming out the bottom
And I'm working with an extremely tight garage with very low ceilings. So thats why I did it this way
I took several tries at leaving the cradle in and just couldn't line up the input shaft with the pilot bearing. I ended up removing the front cradle completely and it went right in!
The tq tube trans and diff are all out since they're getting changed out. So pulling the motor to do the work was a no brainer. It was 2 nuts on the mounts and the ac line and yank it out lol
Um actually...It is supposed to be pulled from the bottom lol. And must not have searched hard cause its been done on here more than once. I removed and then reinstalled (a fully assembled and oil primed long block) from the drivers side with the hood still on last month.
hey capt obvious, I know with a vette it comes from the bottom but in my mind American cars have their motors come from top. It’s my world and no one changes it.
I've actually considered changing my clutch from taking the engine out the top.
just to change the clutch? Just drop the rear cradle a foot, take out your shifter, loosen some wiring, and slide the whole torque tube and rear cradle back to clear the pressure plate of the splined input shaft. Of course the exhaust and tunnel plate have to come out too but yah know lol.
Eesh...removing motor for clutch job doesn't make sense. Having to drain/cap coolant lines, AC lines...meh.
To remove or not remove the cradle. You could get extra long bolts and replace the stock bolts and let the cradle "hang" pretty low to get your clearance without fully removing the cradle.

lol I didn't say it was the right or common way to do it.
Regardless, either way sucks. My problem is I just don't want to do the job nor pay somebody to do the job.
As many of you know, it's not impossible. Even with the hood on.
1. I didn't realize Monster doesn't recommend the Tick Master Cylinder. Tick said they're able to exchange the one i bought for one with a different bore but rather than jump through hoops and install something that's not recommended, i sold it to a member here and am going to just toss a new GM one in. Also, anyone know the correct PN for our master cyl? There seems to be some confusion/dilemma.
2. Monster also recommended i be on the tighter side of spec. so i'm going to swap the thin shim for the medium shim and get to installing the driveline. Probably today. We've had a lot of nice days lately and I've spent a bunch of them with the kids outside.

onward!
I used the LuK brand and it has been G2G so far. I have the LuK slave also along with the LuK LS7 clutch. All have been holding up to my driving and use.

you might be able to cut the rest of the power steering pulley off and replace it with a c6 pulley, they cost about $20 and are made of metal and also slotted so you have easy access to the pump bolts
nevermind, I see a c6 pulley in the background
