A tune is everything - I think the Lg's, AR, and kooks only show a 10-15 hp gain without a tune as well.
Overall, a tune is important. But remember, you can tune a stock car and get some more HP out of it. Putting the headers on a stock car without tuning shows the gross HP improvement they provide.
Frankly I was expecting a gain in the 15-20 range, but it is what it is.

I agree! I have an 02 Z06 and the engine is stock. I got a dyno tune and picked up about 12hp and 28ft/lbs. The A/F ratios were off on that car. That is a nice pickup with just a tune. Now when/if I add headers and get it retuned I can see the real improvement.
Many of these vendors are talking 30hp with their headers and a tune. You are fooling yourself if you think it is all headers doing it...
Now for $300 I'm starting to like the idea of headers. $1500 for headers is a joke. That goes beyond Vette Tax.
I just installed these today - well, not completly finished yet, but the headers are on
Pass side was a bit "challenging" but seems to fit well after it lined up - i put additional heat wrap on the ac line, but the header is leaning up on it - hope the heat wrap is enough to keep it from burning through - bent the line as much as i could twards the frame.
Drivers side actually lined up better/easier then the pass side - i think that was mentioned in here... the one thing i did different was to install the 02 after the header was slid almost into place - i couldnt seem to get it installed with the 02 installed.

Do whatever you have to do to get any separation at all between the header and the A/C line. Conduction heat from the header into the heat wrap will cause serious problems with the A/C. I think there is a post in this thread that mentions the line blew. Even an 1/8th clearance will be better than direct contact, but you REALLY don't want the heat wrap touching the header.
there is no room to move it - it is leaning on the frame and the header....
I plan on getting back under there to tighten some clamps up - but all is well so far.
I stopped over my gear head buddy's house and gave it 3/4 on the way out of there - called me up and said the car was "loud", this coming from a guy who has turn downs on his mustang. :p
Not much difference at idle though - it is there, but nothing extreme.
Wonder if there is any way to reroute the line so it is further above the header since you can't move it laterally? I hope whoever had the problem with this A/C line contacting the header will jump back in and recount their experience, 'cuz my take was that this is something that will bite you.
The ac line blew a hole happened to me. I used 2 layers of exhaust wrap over the ac line and one on the header. It has been running ok since. By the way, the ac line is hard to bend.
Got mine this week. Beautiful pipes! Several of y'all have mentioned adapting the air tubes for an 04 style motor. Is this something I can order or do I need to make it up as I go?

I had to bend the stock air tube towards the firewall. I bent it in an "S-shape" and moved it back almost 6". The stock location attaches to one of the front primaries, but the aftermarket header is attached to one of the rear primaries. This was the hardest part of the install for me. I'll take a quick pic today to help explain.
not sure if this was mentioned or not - i had to cut down the bold for the dipstick. it was too long...
update on the ac line.
I tried to bend that bastard as much as i could - and it was as far as it would go...
One thing you can do though - is to pull down on it a bit twards the firewall - there is a little play although it is still leaning up on it, just doesnt have alot of pressure against the header.
I tried to wrap the tube where it is touching the ac line, but that is near impossible with it installed - although there is 2 layers of wrap where it is touching - and it is not wrapped very tight - so maybe that will help also. - if it did not have the wrap on it - i think you would would have the "air gap" people are talking about.. the 2 layers of heat wrap are worth 1/4" or so.

Did the line blow from overpressure due to high temperature or mechanically due to abrasion on the header?
With the AC line being hard to move, is it possible to take the passenger side header to an exhaust shop & maybe have the offending tube pushed 1/2" or so out of the way?
