I have several laying around... Shoot me your address, just cover shipping for me.

They are 241 Ohms BTW, I have enough to give em away for now, when I get kinda low I'm gonna start charging you resistor breaking gorillas!

Now you have me thinking. Hmmmmm,,,I wonder what the resistance is for the one I have on my desk at work. I have NO idea where it came from.

SMT resistors are usually stamped with their ohmic value. Maybe it's a cap or a diode? What color is it?

Another great fix thanks to everyones help, god I love this form its the best once again. Tools needed 10 mm an 7mm an 4.5 mm (or 3/16 ) nut drives or small sockets. Small flat blade screw driver an torks 15. Soldering iron an fine solder resion core of course. Mine was the second version however it was just the same suface mont restistors that had cold solder joints an cracked aswell.

well, truth is, I'm more curious on how to get the console apart without damage. The soldering is pretty laid out. Sorry for being a bit ignorant. I'm sure I can figure it out.

Plenty of write ups on this, and plenty of us have service manuals to send procedures.....you have to ask the right questions.....

The below procedure includes removing the console:

Default HVAC Display Is Dim

My 2001 HVAC display has been dim for almost a year. I used to tap the glass on it and it would brighten up but then go away again. Today I tore it apart using the instructions that was posted before. My wife who used to own a circuit board assembly business soldered all of the problem components plus some other resistors that had cold joints and now it as bright as a new one!
The forum is a great place for help!
Here is the link that has the fix. Great stuff guys!

Hi Everyone , Message from across the pond in the UK. I have a 2000 C5 Coupe. Attacked this Dimming HVAC dispaly job today. Just wanted to say : this is a great website forum. A big thanks to all who posted the details of how to do this job DIY. Pictures and step by step notes were spot on ! Thanks Guys.
Here is a copy of the posting I put on our United Kingdom Club website
CCCUK

The dimming of the HVAC LCD display panel is a fairly common C5 fault.
My 2000 has just suffered from to this one.
I found an EXCELLENT posting on the Corvette Forum, which I can highly recommend. Complete with photos and step by step instructions on how to disassemble the center console and dash to get at the printed circuit board of the HVAC unit, how to get it out and re solder the offending item./items. The post covers both covertable and coup models as they differ slightly, the convert having the center waterfall unit between the seats
Go Here:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...8-c5-climate-c...

I did this work today, it took about 4 hours, plus half hour "Tea and Tiffin" break, cost about £30 for a mini soldering iron and some solder and a illuminated desk lens lamp ( not really necessary but you know what ? one has to look professional even if one is not. It impresses the neighbours) ). I think about £400 to get it done by an auto shop.

If you are not too keen to attack the soldering yourself, pop the printed circuit board into your local computer repair shop, show them the offending joints and ask them to do it for you for a small charge.

Sorry if this post is already on here but hey ho !! every bit helps

Going for a blast now, "Jobs a good un " !!!

Worked perfectly and cost me 0. I thought the vette I just bought had a blown fuse or it was broke b/c there was no climate display at all. Then, I came across this thread, resoldered it at work, and now I know what the temp is. Thanks to all who contributed.
