Just ran the car.........other than being louder than poop, I noticed no change in the vibration. Figuring in some added vibration for the open turbo's, things just didn't feel right still.

This was with no pulley, no torque tube, no disk in the clutch (flywheel and pressure plate only which were verified zero balanced).

I could feel it at idle as a shake, and putting my hand on the motor I could feel it there too. It got progressively worse with a rise in RPM, and paying close attention I could feel it on the decel after a rev too.

I am going to rule out tune because the car simply doesn't act like it's tune related. It fires right off, settles into idle, completely responsive, doesn't sound like it's missing, ect.

This is REALLY frustrating. I don't know what to do at this point.

Unfortunately, it sounds like you are getting closer and closer to simply pulling the engine, dis-assembling it, and getting the internals re-balanced. Yeah, it sucks and it's very frustrating - just ask me; as I've said before, I had to do it TWICE on the same engine. That totally sucked.

Good luck

Well, here's where I'm at after some conversation yesterday. I'm going to put the car back together and have a tuner look at it. (Should have done this in the first place, but got impatient). reason being, the guys that put the motor in were having a dyno day yesterday, and my guy with the tuner played with a car (safely, and with owners permission) and the tune to see if they could replicate my vibration, and he apparently did without the car throwing codes or anything, just like mine. It doesn't feel tune related to me, but this is a last ditch effort and will essentially completely rule out anything but motor once done. Keep you guys posted, I'd anticipate having the car back together around next weekend......I'm going going to do a couple hours a day from this point forward, and I need to get a remote bleeder before I put the TQ Tube back in.

Well, tomorrow morning I start the reassembly process. First goal is to get the pilot bearing replaced, get the clutch in, and get the Torque Tube back in place. Having a buddy come over for an extra set of hands (he's not vette familiar, but turns wrenches good.......). I was going to try to get it completely done tomorrow (have to do the exhaust and rack/pulley still) but I found out I've got to pick up our Celica from the Body Shop, and I got asked to launch a mission tomorrow night for a co-worker who had something come up, and told them I would. So.....I anticipate Saturday being the finishing of the reassembly. Then I just have to make it to a tuner with it to check it out.

Texas Speed is working with me. Said that if the tuner doesn't sort it out, that they'll want the entire long block to be delivered. Once torn down, if it was indeed internal, they'll cover fixing, reassembly, and shipping. If not, I'm facing a big bill.

Fascinating thread, especially for me, lol. Keep us posted and best of luck.

I would recommend being there for the internal balancing, if you end up doing that.

And it continues. Was working on the pilot bearing. That thing is in there so deep that using the tool that Tony sent me I managed to poke a hole in the crank oil galley plug. And I still don't have the pilot bearing out.

Already done. I ended up having to have one ordered in and got it at 4 PM, so I couldn't really do much today. Got the old one out without dropping it into the pan (it was pushed through, but the #8 rod was holding it up). Just got done finishing up the clutch install with my buddy helping me (he was rotating the motor over, I was torquing bolts). Calling it quits because I've got to be at work at 8 PM.

Ended up having to get the blind hole puller from autozone. Cost me frikkin $140 rental (they raised the price big time). If it wasn't so much I'd have just kept the thing, very hand tool. Got the new freeze plug and pilot bearing in without much issue.

FYI, the freeze plug carries a dorman part number of 555018. All the major big box stores should be able to get it. Cost me $.49 plus tax at Oreilly's.
Interesting note: Checked old (as installed) vs. new (as uninstalled) pilot bearing. Clutch alignment tool fit nice and snug in the new pilot bearing. DID NOT go into the old one. New pilot bearing was nice and snug on the input shaft for the torque tube.......kinda makes you wonder how it was acting IF the torque tube input shaft was even IN the old one.

Got some plans tomorrow, but hoping to get some good wrench time in on it.

If I could just keep a head of steam going on it, lol. Getting our Celica back yesterday put it at #1 in the queue due to it's driver status. So I spent today working on it and I could feel the Vette behind me giving me the stink eye the entire time. Hopefully I'll make some headway tomorrow....the torque tube is ready to go back in at least.

I know how you feel. I've got a bunch of other projects including my bro's vette, my jeep and the wife's audi that need some attention.

I'm trying to get a bunch of stuff done this weekend before I have to go back to Florida for the week.

Nothing got done this weekend. Ended up putting in a lot of time baby shopping and working on finishing our nursery. However, I have a goal to meet:

Fourth of July weekend my wife and I are going to Columbus MS to visit a friend in pilot training. He's a big car guy too (Blown 95 Z-28 ~600 RWHP and head/cam 98 Formula) and I want to at least give it a chance for me to take the car down. So, I'm going to devote the rest of this week after tonight to putting it back together and will hopefully catch a tuner prior to the end of the month. At least it'll have a chance then.

It's difficult to juggle all of this car stuff, especially when you got a little one on the way.

Well, progress today. Took me 90 minutes but I got the TQ tube lined up and the bottom three bolts in. By myself no less. Two floor jacks, and an F-Body jack on a garage stool under the front of the tube so everything would roll. Then it was just a matter of finding the right angle. Once I did it popped right into place. Got the remote bleeder in also. Tomorrow I'm going to finish putting the driveline back in and hopefully get things cleaned up enough to get the down pipes back on. If things go ok I'll have it done on Sunday. Friday and Saturday nights are out because of our annual Boom Campout here at Scott.

Hopefully, a good tune will straighten things out, once you get things back together.

I hope so. Talked to the tuner and he said if he can work things out he'll stay late one night and take a look and do some road tuning to see if it's good. Says the only way for it to really vibrate like that is being WAAAAAY to fat or a severe lack of timing, both of which are present to some degree given the safety of the prior tune on the old motor. I'll scream if it's the tune.

Admittedly, after taking a 3 week break from the car, I'm itching to get into the garage again tonight. Hoping to have the driveline 100% installed, rear suspension reinstalled, and rear section of the exhaust reinstalled tonight. That way Friday and Sunday can be reserved for downpipe/turbo manifold reinstallation, and pulley/steering rack reinstallation.
