The drilled spot was on the clutch from Textralia. They are not able to be indexed wrong, Tex puts offset dowel pins in for the pressure plate to flywheel mating, so you can only install it one way.
Wonder if maybe something in the TQ tube is screwed that PUSHED the pilot bearing in, making the pilot bearing ride against the input shaft of the tq tube. THAT would cause a vibration I'm sure.
Internal assembly (crank) should have been balanced first, then flywheel added to confirm flywheel balance good. Then index flywheel, so flywheel can be located in same spot during re-assembly.
Pressure plate can be checked for balance by mounting onto flywheel. Then the pressure plate would be indexed for proper orientation during re-assembly.
I think I may be the ONLY hot rodder that ever had a balance job messed up TWICE in a row, on the same engine. Both times, it was internal components. I had to remove and dis-assemble the engine two extra times. Man, that was frustrating...............

You can only put the flywheel on one way on LS motors, no need to index (matchmark) crank and flywheel.
I still think that his problem is the motor and not the clutch, but we will know soon.
Tony, I agree with your thoughts that it will end up being something internal to the engine, though for Sean sake I wish we were wrong. The sad thing is having to pull the engine. I believe that if the imbalance is internal that there is a good chance that it could be corrected with the engine still in the car. I'm not so sure I would trust the same folks that did the original balance (or lack of) to do it correct the second time.

Actually....my flywheel can go on any way you want. There are alignment holes, but no dowel pins. Finding that this is quite normal anymore on the LS stuff. Done a LOT of research on Tech about that one.
The problem with having the imbalance corrected in the car is that you pretty much have to tear the turbo system apart to get to the flywheel.
At this point the ONLY thing I can think of would be that when I popped the old motor it tweaked the TQ tube and the shaft is riding crooked in the pilot bearing causing the vibe. I still plan to run the motor with the TQ tube off, but anyone know how to check the TQ tube for trueness while it's out?
Not going to leave anyone hanging. I just went outside to put the clutch back on the car and flat out don't want to play with it today. I'm just a little burned by it right now and don't have any motivation to put effort into it. Maybe tomorrow.
Brother,,,,I feel your pain and anguish. Went to start the car to take it to work on a nice day in late March. The engine made 2 revolutions and made a bang noise. Now my starter is busted off the block %)$%&*)@
So, it sits on jack stands and I'm too bummed to start the repair right now.
I'll start the project of TIG welding the broken end back on and while the drive train is out,,,in goes the new clutch, tranny brace, hardened output shafts, TICK Master Cyl, and cutouts!!!

Ouch......I think that's worse than my situation. You went from a good to a bad car like that. Mine was an unknown when I got it back at least. Best of luck with the repair, hope you get it back up and going soon.
Got the flywheel bolted up (debating on putting the entire clutch in or not) and got the passenger side manifold bolted up. Had to stop because I couldn't get the dang drivers side manifold in position to get the studs put back in, and was getting frustrated. So called it quites before I put a prybar or something through the windshield. Tempermental biotch is fighting me every step of the way.

As I always keep telling myself tomorrow is another day and things will go better tomorrow after I sleep on it.
I have had times when I've worked on trying to put something hard together and it would fight me all the way. Walked away, take a break, and then go back at. It seems like 9 out of 10 times the item I was fighting falls right in place after the break. It almost pisses me off how quickly it falls right in place, then the relief of knowing that step is done out weighs the frustration that it just fell into place. Being a little older now I fight things less and walk away for a while much sooner then in my younger days. Things go much smoother now.

I know the feeling. I saw that I was hitting that breaking point of frustration yesterday and just stopped before I jacked up a stud or worse stripped out a head or something.
Today's goal is to get the manifold put back on and tightened down, get all the ducting back in place enough to fire, and put the rest of the clutch back on. Maybe fire it if things go well.......and if it vibrates, sacrifice it to the gods.
Amazing what a step back will do. Got a half day today so I couldn't help but do some work on the car after I got the yardwork done. Popped out the two front manifold studs, put a small jack under the turbo to hold the manifold up, and got it lined up starting with the middle bolts. It's bolted in right now actually.
So, just a few tidy up things to go before I fire it up. Inlet system for turbo's, oil filter, disc and pressure plate for clutch, intake to TB, coil packs on passenger side, and wires and it should be ready to test fire (again). If it vibrates.........I'm going to kill a mockingbird (for those who saw the lounge thread). His fate lies with the car.

you know, it actually might be better to fire it up with everything apart (ie drivetrain.) then if no vibration, start putting the driveline slowly together piece by piece until it comes back. Would that help with the process of elimination for the root cause?
You know, maybe you could get something positive, besides gstting your car fixed, out of this this reads likew a story in Hot Rod magazine, and it seemslike a lot of our (Corvette Forum) sharper members find this thread totally captivating, the frustration only those who have experienced it REALLY understand, collectivly trying to solve a problem for a person most of us don't know at all ( I knew this computer was good for something). The Forum is your friend and I'm glad I'm part of it.Can't wait to see how this pans out. Based on how hard this car fought you(using the unwritten forumla of the more fight the better the run) I figger you should be in the 8's good luck !!!

That's the plan right now, it's why I'm only putting it together enough to run. The downpipes/wastegates aren't even on the turbo's, I'm doing just enough to fire it up for about 30 seconds. The ONLY external rotating component that's going to be on the car is the clutch, I'm not even putting the front crank pulley back on the car.
