I was kind of thinking the same thing but mine is mostly stock NA but with higher compression.

The LS9 is .010" thicker. That seems to be right for the OP. The bore size is 4.010" though.

yeah there is a bore discrepancy and at first I was leary about it but I have seen lots of guys using those on 5.3 and 5.7 motors with good results so I wouldn't worry about it... I would definitely think about doing some head studs as well while it's all apart

arp studs if you have enough in your budget for them... there was a conpany selling studs on ebay that I have heard are not too bad for the price but I don't have any personal experience with them and I can't remember the name... those would probably be fine at your power level but if you ever decide to turn it up I would spend the extra money on the proven arp's

Man how can a few studs cost over $300. That is insane. I mean if its necessary ill buy them but i dont know how they justify charging that.

This is the best price I have seen for bolts. http://www.ebay.com/itm/ARP-Auto-Rac...9U0U0A&vxp=mtr
eBay seems to have good prices on head gaskets as well.

The studs are more expensive. Make sure you clean out the bolt holes. If there is fluid or oil in the holes the pressure from tightening the bolts can crack the block. I'm not sure if you follow the factory torque specs because ARP usually provides their own spec.

If you have a tap to clean the threads your torque speck will be more accurate. Then you can use air to blow out the holes.

When you get your parts it might be a good idea to just put one head on and do a compression test on that side. If problem solved then your good to go.

I doubt you have a bottom end problem but why not check.

So got both heads off. The cylinder walls all look perfect. Not a single scratch. Can still see factory swirls. Hard to tell by the pics but they are really smooth.

Keep the rust out.
You work quick. You will probably be driving next week.

I think you could go ahead with the LS9 gaskets as far as thickness goes. I would do a search to see if you agree. I'm sure someone will have objections to them because of the bore size. I haven't heard of anyone having a problem. They have 7 layers instead of 3 and made for a FI engine.

The stock gaskets cost about half of the LS9 but I think your goal is to keep this from happening again.

Lol yeah I want to get this car back on the road. I live in NY and not a lot of corvette weather here. The driver side took a little while to get off because of the power steering pump. I think I'll go with the ls9 gasket.
