Bill i dont kniw what the difference in tumbler and this switch and that switch. I have no idea what those instructions mean. Looks like im going to have to pay someone to do it. Its suprising how unspecific the directions are. "Unhook this fastener and install that fastener remove ip dash ( refer to ip dash)". I have no idea what that stuff means. If i did i wouldnt need instructions! Thanks though

bill ive been doing alot of searching through your threads. How do you know so damn much? If i could have 1% of your know how i'd be satisfied! Anyway, I saw your ignition thread and I now know the tumbler sits inside the ignition correct? Can you tell me what I need to do exactly to get the tumbler out, and new one in? I pray this solves my b2721 code. I also noticed on my new tumbler theres a metal tab that must be pushed down in order to put it in or out. Is there a trick to getting a screwdriver in there? Sorry, too many questions at once. Basically can you just give an idiots guide to replacing this tumbler?

Hi corvette owners,
I am having alot of elect. problems that come and go reguarly. Traction control, security and ABS lights. Oil pressure, temp and fuel guage quit working. When the gauges quit the radio and power windows also stop working. I have learned that when this happens you can tap the brake pedal and the gauges, windows and radio will start working again but the lights are still on until you shut the key off and restart the engine.
I have cleaned all the grounds except for 1,6,7,and10. I cannot locate these. Can anyone help me with this; post pictures, description of location, etc?

The very first post in this thread details all the ground locations. Further reading will show pictures etc.

Whenever,,,,, you get whacked out IPC operation AND you loose door control,,,,,,,,,, its most likely caused by corrupted serial data coming from the Door Control Modules.

The reason is deteriorated / spread /damaged female pins in the door wiring harnesses connectors in the accordion tube. Pop out the rubber accordion tubes (in BOTH Doors) and fish out the connectors in the door A pillar hole.

Separate the connectors and look for spread/damaged female pins. Bend them back in shape to make proper and firm connection with the male pins.

When the LDCM or RDCM female pins are loose, the modules turn ON & OFF rapidly because of the damaged connections and corrupt the serial data line and you get what you see as IPC glitches.

Look back thru the post for pictures of the connectors.

Bill

Hi Bill,
Will these connectors in the door pillars also cause the gauges (oil, temp, and fuel), along with the windows and radio to stop working and start working all at the same time? Thank you for taking the time to help me with this problem!

LOL!!! I have helped hundreds of people with this issue. Funny but fact,, the corrupted serial data buss has all kinds of different and weird symptoms. To answer your question YES, it can but not always..

When mine failed,,,,,,,,,,,,,, the engine would crank but wouldn't fire and run.... I was on a business trip and LUCKILY for me I saw that I had lost control of the drivers door. Just wiggling the accordion tube resolved the issue (temporarily)

Yes,, that is one of the symptoms.. The same symptoms can be caused by a WET or DAMP BCM!!

Make sure that the carpet and underlayment is not wet!!

Default no voltage to oil pressure sensor

Hopefully someone can me out help here. I am showing 0 oil pressure in my 03 z06. when i turn the key on the guage goes through the sweep cycle from 0 to 80 and returns back to 0. once the engine is started it is showing 0 oil pressure and also 0 on the digital and it will also read low oil pressure. I have checked every fuse in the car also i have removed the plug from the oil pressure sensor the ground wire is showing good ground, but i am not showing any voltage on the gray wire. i have also checked were the gray wire is coming out of the pcm on connector 1 pin 7 by tapping into the wire with the harness pluged into the pcm and the key on and i am getting nothing. 0 voltage. where should i look next. Any help would really be appreciated.

Great info. I'm getting random codes now. I'll look into this. However, I have a current P0140 (O2 sensor) code and the "Check Engine" light is on. I took it to my local service station, and the mechanic told me that it was the passenger-side front sensor. I replaced all the sensors myself, and drove it to clear the memory for emissions inspection, but the light came back on after about 75 miles. Sine the DIC codes don't (to my knowledge) indicate which sensor is the problem, I took it back to the station, and the mechanic told me that it was the same sensor. Is there voltage that I can check, or any thoughts?

Default great post

This is a great post it is just the answer I was looking for. I have the manuals but wanted to be sure sure before I started pulling things apart. I'm thinking this will answer a lot of problems as I am sure it has never been done and the car is a 92.

Although I'm sure some of the basic electrical issues covered here may help you with your 1992 C4....however this thread is specific to the C5 model years only. Have you asked for help in the C4 section?? I know from once owning an '88 C4 that there are alot of smart guys there that would be helpful for your C4.

Good luck

This has happened randoml before. And also the headlight motor makes a grinding noise when lowering. This noise goes on for 3 or 4 seconds and turns off. I disconnected one lamp to see which was making the grinding and discovered both were doing it. What are the chances of both going out on the same day? Somewhre I read that there is a sensor that controls the lowering and raising of the headlights and that it is located under the passenger side houseing. I'm not too sure how to get to it and also how to test it. Thank you in advance for all your commenst and help.

The gear is going bad for your light. The replacement gear is brass and the stock one is plastic. Traction control usually means your bearing hub assy is bad and needs to be replaced. Basically the speed sensor on it is bad because the bearing is also bad. Anyway I changed all 4 of mine and all the traction control issues left. Like Bill said this has nothing to do with the grounds. I hope this helps out.

p.s. Chevy is not known for their amazing bearing hub assy.

Bill, is there a source that associates the specific electrical component associated with each of the grounding points that are identified in the "Ground Distributions Schematics" attached to your original message? I have some interior lighting problems [described in a separate string yesterday (C5 Interior Light Problem)] which I suspect could be a grounding problem.

There are FOUR grounding points inside the cabin:

G201, G202. G301, G302.

Remove the door sill cover and the ground 201 & 202 will be at the base of the A PILLAR inside a small triangle area. Identical on both sides.

The other grounds are near the seatbelt retractors. Remove the plastic trim from the seat belt area on both sides and you will see the grounds.

Thats great info I have a C4 are the grounds the same place. What I am sure are the grounds do not appear to be bolted to the frame so I have not taken one apart yet some are even riveted as ones by headlights. would like your input before I pull one apart because I can see something breaking eventually just do to its age.

Bill, we soldered the resistors in on my z06. drove around last night about 25 miles and got no security light. We stopped at wendys to eat and car wouldnt start. same thing, just mo security light. So i waited 3 min amd it started right up. checked codes and had the b2721 as a history code. Didnt drive anymore as it was getting late. So just to recap ive changed battery, theft relay, ignition lock tumbler, new key, and now the resistors soldered in. Should i go drive the car more? possibly a fluke? How could it still be doing this. i will say it started right up after 3 min. before i would have to roll start it. so it is better. I will drive the car today an report back see if it does it again
