Please see page 1 post # 6 for instructions & rules

THE LIST

Regarding correction factors:
Times are received from all over the country and are not corrected. Because track and weather conditions vary, this list ranking does not, and can not, identify the fastest cars or drivers in any particular order. It only lists the recorded times, regardless of conditions, in order from quickest to slowest. In cases where ET is the same, the higher MPH determines list order.

Looking at the STOCK cars, it appears that the 08's & 09's are faster than the 05-07 models.

Does the 30 or 36 extra HP of the 08+ models make that much of a difference?

Well, not all of them.
But yes, on average and all else being equal, the stock 2008s/2009s are quicker than the stock 2005s-2007s

Given the same track, same Day/DA and same driver, the '08 & '09 LS3 cars are about .20 faster than the 05-07 LS2's in the 1/4 mile. Throw in the 2.73 optional axle available only on 08-09's and add another .10. Thus, they are about 3 car lengths faster in the 1/4 mile. Not to mention, in general , you will get more gains out most engine mods on a LS3 than a LS2.
Here are The Official GM times:

LS2
0-60 mph:
A6 auto 4.5 sec, Manual 4.2 sec
1/4 mile:
A6 auto 12.9@110 all cars incl Z51
Manual non Z51 12.6@113 Manual Z51 12.5@114
Top Speed: 186 mph

LS3
0-60 mph:
A6 auto 4.3 sec, Manual 4.1 sec
1/4 mile:
A6 auto 12.7@112 all cars incl Z51
Manual all cars incl Z51, 12.4@117
Top Speed: 190 mph

If I may also add those lighter gumby wheels and the extra 6 hp from the NPP option

Enjoy it while it lasts as history repeats itself and 1974 is right around the corner

That is SO true...I tell people all of the time when they say that they're waiting for the C7 instead of buying a C6 or that they're waiting for the supercharged Camaro Z28 that may never happen instead of ordering the current (new) SS...don't wait, buy it now!

I could not agree more...this is 1970 and the new Zr1 is the LS6 Chevelle or the, matter of fact, Zr1 Corvette....get them while they last so you're not reminiscing about the good old days 40 years from now!!!

That said, I have faith. Look at technology. When I started driving in 1982 cars were in a dismal state...except for the new Mustang GT with 175 factory HP..it was a green shoot of performance in a sea of duds...

I think we'll be racing whatever we can get our hands on, even 40 years from now!!

I often credit that first revived Mustang GT (1982) with actually sparking the flame that lead to where we are right now with fast cars in America, it was actually only 157hp though (it was potent but only had a two barrel carb), in '83 it went up to 175 and just kept climbing from there. That car was/is a key character in the recent history of the modern performance/muscle car.

I fully agree.

Then the Camaro Z28 started to attempt to match the Stang.

My choice for really kick starting the performance days back (outside of the 82 Stang) would be the Buick Grand National. In those days, that was one hell of a car.

At 54, I just missed the glory days of performance cars. I graduated high school on 1973 and my first new car was a 74 Vega. In 1976 I bought a 455 Trans-Am and thought it was fast. It took headers (removing the bathtub sized catalytic converter) and glass packs to get a 14.98.

Now a days, most cars will at least turn a 15, and a vast majority will turn a 14.99 or faster.

These are great days to buy a car, but like some of the other posters have stated, the tree huggers are starting to take back over.

Looks like I will have to go find my old CB radio and prepare for the rebirth of the double nickel.

I thought those days were way behind us, but they may be starting again.

Glad I just bought my new Vette. No procrastinating here.

Yea my first car I made payments on was a 1983 with a honest to goodness factory Holley carb and a 5 speed...I was thinking of my 175 horse powerhouse that could get rubber in 4 gears on its crappy TRX 390mm tires.

Semi drag racing connection - I learned how to float gears delivering pizzas in that thing with that crappy plastic clutch quadrant gear that stripped out all the time. I could start it in first and drive all night....until stop lights caused me to have to shut it off and start all over again...

Nice. I think there's a little 5.0 history among a few of us here...I've had four Mustang V8s (three of them were 5.0s), Dennis had a REALLY fast 5.0 and an older Stang as well, Cameron ('welcome2try') had one too I believe.

Ah yes Mustangs........ love that 5.0. The car cost 14,800 in 1989 and the performance parts were approximately the same cost but what a ride

My Mustang buddies say I went over to the dark side (Chevy) but the Corvette is and entirely different car. I started with Mopar went to Ford and now drive a Chevy.

I'll play with cars until I can't get around then it will be time for an LS7 wheelchair

Oh yeah, you had mentioned just the other day about your dabblings in the Mustang world.
I worked a great deal on my first Mustang, my '91 LX 5.0 notchback automatic was only $13,600.00 (before sales tax) when I took delivery in November 1990, that was A LOT of car for the money.
