I have a 2008 C6 and one wet day I slid around juts playing and my srevice stability control system message came on. Shut the car down and started it up and the message was gone, Called the service mgr at chev dealer who owns a vette and he said I might have kicked something I dought it. Driving another day service stability control system appears again and I am in the area of this Chev dealer so I called him I showed up in 3 minutes he put a scanner on it and again said I must have kicked something. That week I went to the dealer where I purchased my vette and they said a sensor was going crazy and they replaced it. No warnings yet lets wait and see. Could I really have kicked something? des1421522@aol.com
I can't really speak to that. I'd love any C5 guys to weight in.

I own a 99 C5 and have had the same issues on service active handling & the front brake grabbing my car if I were to do a slow left or right turn sometimes. The dealer here in the DFW area which is the allefgedly the largest Chevy dealer in Texas (in sales) were too stupid to fix the problem. My car sat there for 2 weeks & they could not repair the steering wheel position sensor even with a used one I got for them as they claimed used ones dont work (new sensors for 99 & 00 are discontinued). I had my car shipped to Johns Corvette Service in NH as he has been fixing these issues on vettes & come to find out on my car it was the YAW SENSOR. the sensor is supposed show 0 when driving straight, shows a negative when you turn left and shows a positive signal when you turn right. My car was showing negative even when driving straight. The YAW was replaced and there are no more issues now. I still have my car at John's place for him to to drive for an additional week just to make sure nothing else pops up (due to the non availability to access John again because of the long distance from NH to TX).
It's been mentioned in this thread that C5s have also been affected by this active handling bug; however, a search through the C5 forum didn't turn up any notes on it. Anybody have further information? I was all set on a C6 but not anymore; now I'm back to looking at C4s and C5s and a '73. (An LT5 ZR-1 is also looking mighty nice about now.) Thank you for your time and attention. --B--
yes it does apply to C5s as my 1999 was affected. see my reply today to VALDEZTKE on this same manner
I've had my 05 for 2 years and never a problem. Then last night without warning the brakes locked up and the car made a hard right turn which would have put me into the car next to me' drivers side quarter panel. Fortunately I'm a high speed pursuit and lethal intervention driving instructor otherwise at least 3 people would have been hurt. I was able to control the car and safely stop and saw "Active Handling" on the DIC. I tryed to start going again to get to the other curb and the Active Handling kept locking up the brakes. The car will be going in Mon and documentation will start. I'm not screwing around with this. It will be fixed or I will file suit upon the subsequent activation.

What ever happened on your situation? Is it faxed? What was teh problem? yaw sensor? steering wheel positionn sensor?
Folks, there is hope. Called GM rep to get some help on my 06 convertible that falls in the criteria of the recall #10V172000 but my vin# was excluded. The first person was no help so I ask to talk to her supervisor and he set up an appointment with my local dealership and the service advisor bent over backwards to fix the problem by installing 19179794 clip at no charge to me. On the drive home (approx. 15 mi) no warning on DIC, so the verdict is still on the fix but be persistent and your stealership might supersize you. They did me.
Where are the early C-5 owners? We have a 1999 coupe with memory package (AAB), Active Handling (JL4) and Power Telescopic Steering (N37) - the memory seat activates the telescopic steering setting each time I enter the car and start.
I have had more than three AH problems each of the past three years. Especially when turning corners, on gravel or grass. Brakes grab then release and the display says "Service Active Handling" and the dash warning symbol comes on. To reset the system, I must turn the car off.
Dealer has worked on it three times, charged each time, no positive results and now they say they have no idea what to do next. Now the 1999 is no longer supported by GM Tech which means the dealer GM Goodwrench guy has not factory support of any kind. Where do I go next and how will I ever resell to buy a new Vette.
Cannonjohnr did you ever fixed your problem with you 99? I had teh same issues with mine before it was fixed by Johns corvette Services in NH. Yes I actually shipped my car from DFW to NH

I don't know about you guys, but I could sure do without most of this high tech stuff in our car. All it does is complicate a simple thing and empty you wallet when something goes wrong. Do any of you report your problems to the NHTSA? http://www.nhtsa.gov/ They should know what problems are out there
I will file a complaint for this serious problem, in addition to the roof complaint I already filed (GM would not repair my roof that was about to fly off due to a previous "repair").
My active handling activates almost weekly at lower speeds while turning, even with the traction control off. The problem is it locks up the front brakes!! While this may not sound too serious at low speeds, imagine pulling out into traffic and the brakes lock up on your car. It occurs pulling onto grass or loose gravel also, especially in turns. I have to turn the car off and restart it for it to move again.
The problem first occurred last Fall and I finally addressed it with the local GM shop with TSB 06-02-35-0002B on 1/2/09 ($88.15 service), which added a clip to the SWPC connector. It did not correct the problem long term. I do have stock size street tires on my car also.
Thanks for this post I had the "active handling" service light come on my dash and I could not tell that anything was wrong until a police officer at a stop light told me that I must have my emergency break on. I said thank you and was puzzled wondering why the officer would make the statement when the only think I saw was my dash light on. I stopped my car turned it on and off back on and the light went off. The light has not come on again but I am taking my car while it is still under warranty and have it serviced. With what I have read I get that I very well could have worn my break pads down during this incident... Thanks for all the helpful information here great group of people.
I have now had my 2008 in the shop 4 times this year for the dreaded "Service Traction Control" issue but mine has never been associated with the braking issues. They have replaced the brake control module and "checked every connection" but they cannot get it to happen to them. They can find codes every time it happens but cannot seen to fix it.
I had this "service active handeling" warning popping up on my C-6 2005 from day one. The dealer jerked me around till the warranty expired. I finally called GM and they sent me to the dealer with instructions for the service mgr to call them. short story, they replaced the wiring in the steering column and alls well now.

awsome. Glad the recall on 05 and 06 vettes is working. You said they replaced the wiring. Do you have part #s of what they replaced and installed?
Today for the first time Service Active Handling/Service Traction Control and Check Brake Fluid messages appeared. Brake fluid level was fine. Did not notice any unusual handling or braking problems. It is a 2009. Haven't read all the pages of this thread but it sounds like this is a problem for more than 2005 and 2006 models. Guess I will let the dealer look at it if it becomes habitual.
