Service Active Handling - Consumer Action
But my symptoms were a bit different. Seems to get the messages only when the car is cold. Once it warms up and I turn it off and restart it seems fine. The message will not return until the next cold start. Also what is weird is that the engine revs high and the tranny will not shift properly. Seems to rev at 4K RPM near 40 MPH. Like it will not go above 3rd or 4th gear. Paddles will not work at all to control shifting while the messages appear.
Again, once it warms up and I shut it off and restart the messages go away and it runs fine.
Found the TSB part for $5 shipped on Fleabay. Worth trying to install it myself thanks to the wonderful DIY instructions posted on this thread. Was thinking about applying some computer type connector cleaner too while I have it apart. No way am I going to take it to any Stealership or fight with Gooberment Motors.
When I had called GM a couple of months ago upon first finding out my VIN was in the list, they said that the recall did not apply to me.
A nice forum member ran my VIN and told me what the service history of my 2005 vert was. I was shocked to find that it had the Service Active Handling recall, but that next to that line it said no action taken.
Well, I thought that surely this meant that something was wrong. Imagine my disbelief when I pull open the kick panel and see that the orange comb isn't there.
I went online and found the part pretty cheap, and installed it when I replaced my pod cluster and center console with gm painted parts to match the exterior.
Sure enough, that message has not come up since. It is worth noting that the wire harness was being pulled a bit tight. I also no longer use the telescoping steering.
For those that are UNSURE if the fix was applied, taking the kick panel off is a 10 minute job. It is simple to see and if it is not there, simple to fix.

I had the SERVICE ACTIVE HANDELING thing go off for 2 days. Went to the dealer and bought that silly looking comb thing for $2.50
Put that in and it's been fine.
Engineers and give them a blank check to find out with certainly what's going on. I am certain that a car company that had engineers smart enought to develop that 7 liter we love also has engineers smart enough to nail this down one and for all. I bought a comb just to see what was but they charged me $8.

The connector that plugs into it is very short and the connector its self is poorly designed.
GM had a fix for it and installed a red comb that was suppose to make better connections.
Mine gave me trouble and I used a wooden pop cycle stick to bent the pins inside the SWPS so that they made better connections in the harness connector and that solved my SWPS issues.
I also put a zip tie on the harness to prevent the harness from pulling on the SWPS Connector.
Its a simple free fix if a poor SWPS connector is causing the connection issue
Here is a picture of the SWPS, the comb and the zip tie on an 06 Coupe:

AH needs steering wheel position to add driver input into its calculation. If the SWPS gives false info the EBTCM is going to activate the brakes to get the car to go into the direction it THINKS you want it to go and that is the brake activation that you feel.
The next time it happens, glance down to the DIC and see if you get the Active Handling ACTIVE message.
If you don't get the message,, you could have a defective EBTCM that is activating on its own.
Give me you thoughts..

NO idea what to do!
Forgot to mention that my car is a stock 2008 M6 base with 3LT and Z51 packages.

I was one of those who was just going to let it go and see. I'll tell you this....that incident scared the hell out of me in morning rush traffic. Luckily I had already had my coffee or I may not have been able to compensate for the hard right pull in time.
If the Stealership tries to rob you, just buy the part and do it yourself. Take it for a test drive on an empty road. Do some abrupt turns to see if the issue has been resolved.
Good luck!
