Same here, but I don't want to give up, I'd like to fix it somehow. Any suggestions as to what I should do?

I just now started to get the dreaded "Service Active Handling" and "Service Traction Control" out of the blue and have read this thread. Car is an '09 made around the time frame so the TSB might apply. Not sure if it ever had the "fix" or not.

But my symptoms were a bit different. Seems to get the messages only when the car is cold. Once it warms up and I turn it off and restart it seems fine. The message will not return until the next cold start. Also what is weird is that the engine revs high and the tranny will not shift properly. Seems to rev at 4K RPM near 40 MPH. Like it will not go above 3rd or 4th gear. Paddles will not work at all to control shifting while the messages appear.

Again, once it warms up and I shut it off and restart the messages go away and it runs fine.

Found the TSB part for $5 shipped on Fleabay. Worth trying to install it myself thanks to the wonderful DIY instructions posted on this thread. Was thinking about applying some computer type connector cleaner too while I have it apart. No way am I going to take it to any Stealership or fight with Gooberment Motors.

I found something interesting out about a couple of weeks ago...

When I had called GM a couple of months ago upon first finding out my VIN was in the list, they said that the recall did not apply to me.

A nice forum member ran my VIN and told me what the service history of my 2005 vert was. I was shocked to find that it had the Service Active Handling recall, but that next to that line it said no action taken.

Well, I thought that surely this meant that something was wrong. Imagine my disbelief when I pull open the kick panel and see that the orange comb isn't there.

I went online and found the part pretty cheap, and installed it when I replaced my pod cluster and center console with gm painted parts to match the exterior.

Sure enough, that message has not come up since. It is worth noting that the wire harness was being pulled a bit tight. I also no longer use the telescoping steering.

For those that are UNSURE if the fix was applied, taking the kick panel off is a 10 minute job. It is simple to see and if it is not there, simple to fix.

I am thoroughly confused. DIC message popped up while driving...ding ding then front sort of locked up momentarily and felt steering wheel pull a bit...very unnerving. I had the recall taken care of when it came out. I'm not sure what my dealer will say and hate paying hundreds of dollars, if not more, while they troubleshoot...anyone have any advice on the fix?

Just want to add my .02 cents
I had the SERVICE ACTIVE HANDELING thing go off for 2 days. Went to the dealer and bought that silly looking comb thing for $2.50
Put that in and it's been fine.

Default Way too active handling

I posted before on the traction control issue. The first time my left front brake would not release after stopping on the way to work one morning. The second time my right brake locked up turning right lightly aggressive while in default mode. In other words I never touched the button after start. it snapped right and ended up with 7000 in damage. I have read about the brake lock ups out of the blue at freeway speeds causing a Kwoka hard pull one way or the other. To be honest It didnt think it possible and you all were full of ****. Until 2 weeks ago when instantly the right front brake didn't lock but almost. And it pulled very hard moving the car to the right about 8 feet. I. Just missed a parked car and some kid on a bike I was probably going 45. It scared the **** out of me. Mine was on the list and the 2.58 comb was installed by the body shop after crashing it and getting notification on the same day. That kids momma has no clue how close she was to being very very wealthy that day. After losing her son. I completely agree that G.M. Needs to get 50 of there very best
Engineers and give them a blank check to find out with certainly what's going on. I am certain that a car company that had engineers smart enought to develop that 7 liter we love also has engineers smart enough to nail this down one and for all. I bought a comb just to see what was but they charged me $8.

The motor scares me enough. so I don't need the brakes to.

C5s can and do experience the same thing. If I had to make an educated guess, I would point you to the Steering Wheel Position Sensor (SWPS)

The connector that plugs into it is very short and the connector its self is poorly designed.

GM had a fix for it and installed a red comb that was suppose to make better connections.

Mine gave me trouble and I used a wooden pop cycle stick to bent the pins inside the SWPS so that they made better connections in the harness connector and that solved my SWPS issues.

I also put a zip tie on the harness to prevent the harness from pulling on the SWPS Connector.

Its a simple free fix if a poor SWPS connector is causing the connection issue

Here is a picture of the SWPS, the comb and the zip tie on an 06 Coupe:

AH needs steering wheel position to add driver input into its calculation. If the SWPS gives false info the EBTCM is going to activate the brakes to get the car to go into the direction it THINKS you want it to go and that is the brake activation that you feel.

The next time it happens, glance down to the DIC and see if you get the Active Handling ACTIVE message.

If you don't get the message,, you could have a defective EBTCM that is activating on its own.

Give me you thoughts..

Bill

Hello, I am new to the Corvette. I have a 2006 stock LS2 Convertible. I just received a "Service active handling" message. I just read a few of the posts. Sounds like this is a BIG deal. What should I do? I really don't know what to do besides bring it to a dealer. Can anyone help??? Thanks!

Default Service Active Handling System

Hello, I am new to the Corvette. I have a 2006 stock LS2 Convertible w/6 Spd. I just received a "Service active handling" message. I just read a few of the posts. Sounds like this could be a BIG deal. What should I do? I really don't know what to do besides bring it to a dealer. Can a Chevy dealer handle this kind of problem? I live just north of Denver. I don't know who to bring it to. Can anyone help??? Thanks!

So I have read almost every thread and the only simi fix I have heard of is the clip/zip tie on the stearing wheel sensor.....is there an actual no crap fix?? I want to take my vette in and have this fixed for good. Is there an actual fix or am I doomed?

Thanks for responding. I really have NO idea how to handle this. Even if you do this "semi" fix, is the car safe to drive??? As soon as my wife finds out about this, she won't let our kids in the car! Wanted a Vette for 40yrs! Now I finally have one and I don't know if its safe to drive! How can I in good conscious drive family or friends in it???
NO idea what to do!

How can I tell if my exhaust is causing a fault in my electric sensor?? I have B&B Bullet Exhaust and LG pro headers and have tried all the fixes for the service active handling/forced swerve.....is there a way to isulate the electric sensors so that the vibrations from the exhaust dont affect it??

So on Friday my message center showed the scary "Service Active Handling" message so I turned the car off then back on and it did not come back. This morning when I started the car to go to work "BING" it came on again, so I hit the reset button. Since I drove the car all weekend without issue I figured I'd be okay......uuuum, no. At highway speed (60MPH) my right front tire locked up for a few seconds so I pulled over to check it out. The woman behind me who I don't know but she works in the same area as me and parks in the same lot pulled over to see if I was ok and informed me that she was behind me for about 5 miles and that my brake lights were on the whole time. I started the car again and sure enough, the brake lights were on for no reason. I turned the car off and the lights went off, but came right back on at restart. I love my car, but this is scary! I did report it in both spots listed at the beginning of this thread and hope to hear SOMETHING back from either the NHTSA or GM as I immediately made an appt at Reedman-Toll service dept to check the issues. My ODI number is 10520131. Fingers crossed.

Forgot to mention that my car is a stock 2008 M6 base with 3LT and Z51 packages.

I had the same problem, installed that little $3.00 comb looking thing under the column, that was months ago. Not a peep out of it since. Has anybody that installed that part continued to have issues?

Amazing, the scary incidents from fellow effected c6 owners just keeps climbing. GM are you listening or reading this thread??? The best thing most of us could do is to document and report our issue(s).

Thanks Meanjoe.. Printed out some pictures of the fix and am bringing them to the dealer tomorrow morning when I drop the car off.

I was one of those who was just going to let it go and see. I'll tell you this....that incident scared the hell out of me in morning rush traffic. Luckily I had already had my coffee or I may not have been able to compensate for the hard right pull in time.

I am glad you were able to maneuver and avoid an accident sir. I was scared to death the few times it happened to me. Luckily, those incidents were on the streets at slow speeds. I installed the 'orange pick' myself that took only about 15mins. Thank goodness for this thread.

If the Stealership tries to rob you, just buy the part and do it yourself. Take it for a test drive on an empty road. Do some abrupt turns to see if the issue has been resolved.

Good luck!

I have not read all 570 posts, but is the problem also on the newer cars; 2012-2013?
