I get the following messages:
"Service Traction Control"
"Service Active Handling"
"Service Anti-Lock Brakes"


The dealership stated it was caused by a bad "Wheel Speed Sensor" located in the passenger rear Wheel Hub Assembly. They state that you cannot just replace the sensor - But rather, you have to change the entire wheel hub assembly. $600. Ouch. lol
I ride around with the traction control "Off" and the dealership states there is no drivability issue or safety concern as the anti-lock brakes still work...???...
Anyone have this "Wheel Hub Assembly" issue and replacement before?

Uggggh! Have lived with this issue for three years ! Wheel speed sensors & SWPS (Steering Wheel Position Sensor ) are the two main culprits. Have filed with NTSB etc. with no results. This intermittent problem usually manifests itself when the engine is cold @ start up & have driven the car less than five miles. Good luck .

My 2005 has just started to do this, I will fix the plug as per GM and hopefully that will be the end of it.

As a side note here in Canada GM has NO report of anything like this they are telling me, I told them about the US cars and they told me the car are different, I call BS since they are identical.

Anyway I will let you guys know if this works.

I have a 2012 coupe and I've seen it on mine.

In my case, I just unplug and replug the sensors at each wheel and I'm good to go.

I have a 2012 that had issues until I disconnected the wheel speed sensors and wiped them with dialectic grease. No problems sense then. Almost 2 years now.

I was at the track and my 2005 had a "hiccup" around 110 mph. It didn't feel like it affected the brakes, but more of a fuel cutoff for a split second followed by "service active handling". It didn't feel unsafe, so I reset the code by unplugging the battery, and I've been able to repeat the failure any time I hit around 110 mph. I've never had it happen under 100 mph or while turning. Does this sound like the failure described in the OP?

I apologize for asking a question that's probably answered somewhere in this thread, but I couldn't find it: What's is the dealership's response to this problem, and what is the cost to fix? I'm assuming I'm stuck with the $90 for them to "diagnose" the problem, but do they assume any of the cost to fix this safety problem?

YIKES!!!!! The STEALERSHIP will NOT do any testing or diagnosis above the legal speed limit.

You would need to hook up the GM Tech2 and CAN-D Module to the OBD2 port and diagnose this dynamically and when the problem happens, you can see what specifically caused the issue.

The C5s had this issue and 90% of the time it was a defective EBTCM that cause the system to error out at a specific speed. Mine errored out at 43 MPH. Anything UNDER 43 MPH and it acted 100% normal.

has anyone installed the "clip fix"? only to still have problems? pertaining to the 710 code I just got an 05' and it seems to do it very intermittent. I ordered the part as it's only $3.00 and will install Monday.

I've had mine wrapped two or three times, and most recently (~5 years ago) had the clips installed. Wrapping was next to useless, and lasted only a few months each time. The clips worked for a couple of years and I still have occasional problems.

There is no truly permanent fix, IMO.

In that time did you continue to have the steering wheel retract and back each time?

Yes, all the seats, mirrors, steering wheel worked properly.

The problem isn't limited to those with the telescoping steering wheel.

Oh I know it happens to all of them.

Was just curious if you kept using the steering wheel easy in/out feature after it was "repaired".

I just experienced my brakes locking up on me today and could not explain it.

Has anyone as of 2018 found a fix for this issue or will I have to temporarily fix my car every year when it decides to screw off?

Luckily this only happened to me at less than 10 mph while on traffic. I just turned the steering wheel too far I guess...

Your abs sensor on the hub or some other sensor? I only see the abs sensor on the hub (in replacement hub pictures) and it's not removable. I haven't gotten a chance to take a wheel off and look at anything yet cause it happened on my way to work and shutting the car off "sloved" it for the time being.

Now to make sure it doesn't happen on my way home going 70 mph on the turnpike I gotta have TC/AH off in the rain... Gonna be fun...

Also, how do you know which wheel sensor is the bad one? When the brakes locked up the active handling message came up on the screen but it never kept a code (luckily pulled right in to a caddy dealer and they checked the codes after it got shut off though).

The sensor inside the wheel. Looks at your tire pressure screen. It will indicate that you have a tire low or high on air
it’s that one. Usually will not happen going straight. Only when you put side pressure on the tire.
