The '18 Z06 1LZ 7M that I am driving myself nuts over! Just delivered the day before at the dealership. Still trying to do better on the deal. Should know more tomorrow. Do I need this ...NO....do I want it...YES!
Is that a hold or a sold yellow sign in the front windshield for you! Your next thread will probably announcing your New 2018 ARTIC WHITE Z06 purchase!

Ha ha ha. That's funny. That's where I am at too, but I drove my GS for 11 months first. Nothing wrong with it and its plenty fast, but do I want a Z06...Yes. LOL. I am thinking you will probably do best on your trade value sooner than later.

Sold tag that I put on Saturday, but changed my mind Monday. Yet, still interested if the deal can be a little better. I should know by tomorrow.

Average Joe driver and high horsepower cars are usually a bad combination.
THERE it is.

Frankly, I find my 460 HP enough, but hey, who would turn down more. However, if given a choice between 100 more horses or better exterior finish, I'd take the improved exterior finish.

I've considered trading in my C6 Z06 and '12 Boss 302 for a C7 Z06. I haven't gone for a test drive yet, because I may be better off not knowing how much better it is.
All I need to remind me how awesome my cars are, is one of my frequent business trips (such as the one I'm on right now, where my rental car is a Toyota Corolla). Company restrictions require me to rent a mid-size car when traveling, and how the Corolla is a mid-sized vehicle is beyond me. I currently own 4 vehicles and even my full size truck makes the Corolla look and sound like a dog.
I am 47 and grew up in the 80's and 90's thinking the HP wars were over and I thought I would need to buy a 70's vehicle to get 300 HP. Boy was I wrong! I'm amazed at what all the brands have been doing in recent years. And the Corvette in all forms is at the top of the heap, unless you want to spend ridiculous money. The C7 Z06 is beating $1m+ dollar cars from a few years ago around the ring!
I'm just thrilled to have the affordable options we currently have and can't imagine living in a better timeframe!
Thanks for reminding me why I long ago put hearingvoices in my ignore list. Now stop quoting him!
I dunno. I kinda like reading his posts. Entertaining. It's kinda like Captain Obvious dropped a couple hits of LSD and decided to post on a message board.

If buying a new Corvette upgrade every few weeks or months is your pastime, more power to ya! It makes life exciting, and obviously you can afford it! 👍

The thing is: I never wanted the fastest car. I wanted a great sports car, and the Stingray certainly is that. But even though I didn't like it, much of the automotive press loves the Mazda Miata, and that's not a very fast car. But it handles, it's fun to drive, it delivers a certain kind of quality sports car experience.
But all Corvettes - new or used (going back a long way) are fast cars. Very fast cars actually, compared to 99% of what's on the road today. But there will always be something faster.
imagine if we measured those people/things we enjoy the most by numbers alone; a two dimensional view without any depth.....I remember being psyched when my new 1986 Honda CRX Si had 92 hp! Then my '92 Miata had 116! And then my first Vette, my 2002 C5 with over 350 hp!
The other aspect is HANDLING; it would be great (or not) if we didn't have to turn that steering wheel, but alas (or joy), we do and that's where the blinders come off and we get the true measure of a car when we go beyond numbers.......
...except that's captured in skidpad performance, which is also a number. The GS happens to have the best skidpad of any production car on Earth, too.
Today with all the ultra high HP ratings of many engines such as 840 on the Demon, 707 HellCat, 650 Z06 & ZL1 and rumors of 800 on the ZR1....Do you feel that our 460 HP on the Stingrays and Grand Sports are now considered lowly?
Just Saturday I stopped by my local Chevy dealer who had a shipment of '18's delivered on Friday. Me being a kid in a candy store eyed this Artic White '18 Z06 1LZ and inquired about trading my 7 week old GS on it. Actually made a deal and thought it over yesterday long and hard and realized that it was just too much for me to spend needlessly! The Grand Sport is the same car without the Supercharger and even though it has 190 HP less....I will never use all of that power on the street! So why did I want the Z06 at all? I know why....just to have it!!
Yeah, in some cases one could perceive the HP of the C7 to be on the low side in comparison to others, but still pretty much mid pack when compared to lots of other sports cars. That being said, when you start to compare performance against others, the Corvette rises from "mid-pack" to "top-tier".
Just depends on who is buying the car. If it's about sitting around a lunch table measuring *****', then Demon/Hellcat become the benchmark. Otherwise, there are much better performing autos than the top HP producers but applying it more judiciously in conjunction w/ the entire package.
Not surprisingly, at a certain point extra HP is useless as there are other factors that limit its full use.
Just wondering if GM said the new GS was a 500HP car (but still used the 460HP motor) how many would think they actually had and could feel the extra power just because the spec sheet read 500 instead of 460?
I kind of find it funny with all these manufacturers putting out cars like the Demon with that much power but they are all rear wheel drive and its almost impossible to put that much power to the ground properly without race slicks. Which is why cars with considerably lower hp but AWD get that edge and are faster off the line and handle better. AWD C8?
I wonder if they change the testing standards to get the high numbers on paper. Anybody?
I believe most US and many foreign manufacturers now use the same SAE-developed protocol for power testing. GM uses this method for all engines. It's voluntary, but most want to back up their claims by saying they are "certified."
IMHO, the 460 HP number is a bit misleading. The LT1 Direct Injection and variable cam phasing (not to mention the 11.5:1 comp ratio) deliver a torque output similar to the LS7 427 up to about 4500 RPM.
This power "under the curve" gives me LS7-style grunt off the line, when I shoot a gap in traffic, need a boost on the on-ramp, or if I just need to distance myself from a car cluster on the freeway.
The seemingly effortless torque reminds me of my old 396 Camaro. While I would gladly take a LT4 (more is always better!) for the right price, the LT1's 460 HP fights way above its class and I feel delivers a lot more fun in my C7 than its 460 HP would indicate.
...and if you just gotta have a 500+ HP number - headers, CAI, and a tune will get you there.
