When a cable breaks, I didnt understand what people are using the tie wrap to do to get top closed or what?/ I carry tie wraps but wouldnt know what to do in case of HTC cable failure?
If it breaks, it becomes pretty clear what needs to be tied down.
The failure of the cable is much better than the hydraulic failures experienced on the C7's that in some cases drenched driver or passenger seats with hydraulic fluid.
I wonder if once these cars are out of the bumper to bumper warranty the broken cable could be taken to some place like a bicycle shop where they could just replace the inner cable.
One guy on line used a crimper and electrical connector 10-12 awg disconnect female .250 (home depot). Bent the end 90 degrees.
where to get it fixed? My cable on the right broke is it because I just changed my exhaust
Can't imagine how changing the exhaust would affect the convertible tonneau cover cable. Take it to the dealer. If your car is under warranty, they'll replace it for free.

Thanks for posting a photo of the issue. Now I can ask the question I have been thinking about. Did your cable actually snap, or did it pull free from a retainer clip? And, is it possible to repair it? I'm not suggesting you should attempt that - its under warranty and I would let the dealer fix mine because these tops are sensitive. But looking carefully at your photo, I can see what might be a metal clip in the plastic holder where the cable goes. I marked that in your photo, attached. Also attached is a photo of mine. In this photo you can see that the metal piece is in place. I don't know if it is a retainer cip, or actually part of the cable (like a "button" on the end of the cable"). Your photo looks like it has a small ball on the end (or is that just frayed cable) that might fit into a retainer clip.
Once the piece is zip tied can you put the top down into the trunck without the folded piece damaging the top as the lid comes down?
Third time is the charm. I had my 3rd failure back on July 8th. The day my warranty expires!
Got it in and they had to order a cable. The Corvette technician was standing there and said "Why don't we stock these?"
Last year my neighbor Klaudia came over and informed me of her 2020 C8 HTC "Cable failure", and how she had to use a wire tie to help close the convertible top. This week while putting the top up on my 2022 C8 convertible in our driveway, I heard a sudden binding sound, then I noticed my top was not operating properly, turns out the same cable as Klaudia's broke or malfunctioned on my car. I imagine that if two neighbors that don't travel together and have various year C8 productions, this must be a problem through at least a two-year production line. I am taking my car in today for the repairs, but I would love to know if anyone else is having this problem? On both of our cars, the Cable issue has been on the Driver's side, and in order to close the top, you have to fold under the retracting black trim piece (I don't know what this is called). Folding the black trim piece is not a fix but will allow the top to close until you can get your car in for repairs.
Separate issue I experienced involving the convertible top. A few months ago, while putting the top up I also heard a loud sudden binding sound. When I looked to see what happened I noticed the paint where the trunk and convertible top come together at a raised profile point, both trunk and top have a 1/4" chip of paint missing showing the white composite body panel (Driver's side also). I took the car to my Dealer's Body Shop, where I was informed the trunk was not properly aligned during production. This repair is also being taken care of with this Body Shop / Repair visit today.
I just fell victim to the same issue tonight! 2023 LT2 Stingray with 3,000 miles on it...the cable snapped, not the retaining box...
Just had my drivers side fail, exactly like the passenger side. Wondering if the extended warranty will cover, if not, has anyone replaced it themselves yet?

If you have the Chevrolet Platinum Protection Plan please post whether or not it gets covered. I suspect it won't be but it is a little nebulous on what they cover regarding the top.
Ok, on further review I think I may try a similar repair on my own. Using aluminum ferrule and some 1/16" steel rope. Crimp a stop on one end, put that in the plastic box, then put the other end and the broke end of the other cable in a ferrule and crimp them together. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt...3274/205883075

Success!. Ran the top up and down several times works fine. Should have made the cable just a bit shorter as the ears are out of sync, and the drivers side doesn't tuck in quite as far, but it closes just fine. Had to remove the cable to cut off the bad end as it was swollen enough to not pass through the ferrule. Not sure what the official procedure is for installing this, but it is a real tight fit. Time will tell if it holds up.
I did reach out to my local Chevy place that did my passengers side and was told that it is not covered by the Platinum warranty. Bummer.

If this continues to work I suggest making a seperate post detailing the repair so it can be made a sticky in the DIY section.

GM should be ashamed of themselves. These cables are breaking all over the country and their answer is if out of warranty (even with 2000 miles) the owner has to pay $550.00 to the dealer in order to get the same insufficient cable that will fail again.
Wow, just came across this tread! I was looking to trade my ER Cpe in for an HTC but after reading this, I may just stay with the coupe. Glad to see ppl sharing this great info. in an attempt to help others out!!
