Don’t make the mistake thinking you need that other end with the black box it costs in excess of $400 to $600 dollars. Check out the photos. You really don’t need to replace the bracket that’s totally up to you. I just replaced the cable and it worked out well. Not sure why Chevrolet includes the bracket but oh well. All you really need is the cable. Good luck.
Well, well, well, it was a happy Friday at 630 this morning. But that quickly turned into an FML moment when retracting the hard top in hopes of enjoying a morning drive into work.
I didn’t snap a picture. But, post #41 is a perfect depiction of what happened. Obviously if one picture can pinpoint the same exact failure on just about everyone’s post in this thread means it’s yet another “cash cow” issue GM has baked into owning a C8. Just enough failures to make money but not enough to have customers revolt. And because it’s not a safety issue, the NTSB doesn’t care. Anyway, I digress.
While this thread has provided great info, there is only one YouTube video to show the end result of a DIY fix. I can’t find a video showing the work being done or how to make adjustments to top covers alignment/motion. If anyone has a link please post. Maybe I missed it in my search of the forum.
If not, I might produce a terrible first time video for YouTube regarding the fix for this issue. And no one wants to see a face for radio F-up his C8 more than it already is….

UPDATE!
Well I fixed it but did not make a video LOL. Good luck suckers!

I’m not to sure how long it will hold but can’t be any worse then OEM. There is a lot of tension on that cable. I did check both sides and they are equal and the timing/alignment is spot on.
I will from now on keep four zip-ties in my clove box (not to hog-tie hookers in the trunk), just in case this happens again.

UPDATE!
My DIY fix didn’t hold 24hrs. I guess some may have dodged a bullet in that I didn’t make a video on how to address the issue LOL. Going with the Liquid Steel route to repair. Hopefully it works. I really don’t want to purchase an OEM replacement knowing it could brake at any time.
Hopefully there isn’t an underlying issue I’m overlooking that is causing the failure.

I doubt any kind of glue will hold. You need something like a crimp ferrule or coupler with set screws. A bicycle or motorcycle shop may be able to make a custom cable for the existing housing.
Man, I just transitioned from a Coupe to an HTC and while this thread is very helpful, it’s scary as well! So I will add zip ties to my traveling care package!

The problem isn't nearly as widespread as the internet makes it seem. My 4 years old, 29000 mile HTC gets the top dropped any drive it's not raining about 60F or above (sometimes less). Many hundreds of open / close cycles. Never had a problem. Neither have any of the HTC owners in my local Corvette club.

What a way to bring up my confidence, thanks and I hope to share your experience!!

How many C8 HTCs have been sold? Est: 71,000 since 2020.
How many failures have been reported? Unknown. Maybe 700? In this thread we saw less than 17 cases reported. Yes, one person reported the issue occurred 2 or 3-times. Ouch.
My guess is that the chance of failure is less than 1%. I personally have put my top up or down well over 600 times without issue with the cables failing. I too have placed Zip-ties in the glove box. It is hard to explain how some people have issues while others do not.
Well crap, just happened to me. 30,000 miles, more than 4 years old. Dealer has to get the part shipped from Michigan, so who know how long that will take.
