URGENT ALERT – GUN GRABBERS UP TO SOME NEW TRICKS – YOUR ATTENTION NEEDED

Ever since the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the 2nd Amendment guarantees your right to keep and bear arms, anti-gun politicians have been working hard to come up with a way to take your guns away without running afoul of the Heller and McDonald decisions.

Well, it looks like the gun-grabbers are about to launch a whole new attack on your right to keep and bear arms. The objective of this new attack is to make firearm ownership too expensive and too impractical for most people through the use of taxes, registration schemes, and storage requirements.

THE TEST BED FOR THIS NEW ATTACK ON YOUR GUN RIGHTS IS OAK PARK, ILLINOIS.

On Tuesday, 24 January 2012, the Oak Park Village Council will be holding a public information seminar on regulatory proposals designed to discourage private firearm ownership. Many gun-rights advocates believe that the Oak Park regulations are a blueprint for state-wide laws that the gun control movement hopes to pass in 2013.

IF GUN OWNERS DO NOT STAND UP NOW, THE RIGHT TO KEEP AND BEAR ARMS WILL BE REGULATED OUT OF EXISTENCE IN 2013.

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO TO PROTECT YOUR RIGHT TO KEEP AND BEAR ARMS:

1) Attend the Oak Park meeting and stand up for your rights. The meeting will be held at the Oak Park Village Hall, 123 Madison. The meeting begins at 7:00 PM, but you should be there by about 6:30 to make sure you get a seat. Be sure to wear your IGOLD shirts and hats.

2) Pass this alert along to all your gun owning friends and family.

3) Please post this alert to any and all Internet blogs and bulletin boards to which you subscribe.

PLEASE BE IN OAK PARK ON JANUARY 24TH!!! IF YOU DON’T STOP THE GUN CONTROLLERS, WHO WILL?

FUNDING BADLY NEEDED TO CONTINUE COURT FIGHTS FOR YOUR RIGHTS
COOK COUNTY AND CHICAGO POLITICAL MACHINES HOPE TO BLEED ISRA DRY

As many of you know, the freedom-loving citizens of Illinois are saddled with an ardent gun-grabber for a Governor and a state legislature that is absolutely worthless when it comes to protecting the citizen’s innate right to keep and bear arms.

The courts are the last hope for Illinois citizens who honor this nation’s traditions and respect our Constitution. At the very least, the courts provide a pathway for justice to be served as we saw in the Heller and McDonald decisions.

Right now, the ISRA is locked in battle with the gun-grabbers in the Wilson v. Cook County lawsuit. This suit seeks to overturn Cook County’s arbitrary gun ban which prohibits Cook County residents from owning popular hunting and target shooting firearms. On Wednesday, Jan 18, 2012, the Illinois Supreme Court heard arguments in the case. You can watch and listen to the proceedings at the link below.

Video: (watch this as long as you can stand it, these are the people that run your life.) http://163.191.183.117/court/Supreme...812_112026.wmv

Watching and listening to the courtroom activities will give you a flavor for the intensity of the battle to save your rights. All out legal warfare is not cheap – and we’re spending a lot of money on your behalf. Our financial reserves are running short so, if we are to continue battling for your rights in the courts, we need your generous donation.

The gun owners of Illinois badly need your support. If our legal funds run dry, the well-moneyed gun haters will run all over the top of us and then you can kiss what little rights you have left good bye. Just a reminder, donations to the ISRA are not tax deductable.

Send an e-mail in support!!!

Olney, IL — State Representative David Reis (R-Ste. Marie) was appointed to serve on the Firearm Public Awareness Task Force.

"As a strong supporter of Second Amendment rights, I believe the Task Force shall serve as a stepping stone to enact concealed carry into law," said Reis. "The information gathered will clearly demonstrate the positives concealed carry offers residents and communities throughout Illinois."

The 23-member Task Force created under House Resolution 550 shall study the experiences of states permitting citizens to carry concealed firearms. The Task Force shall also study what steps are necessary to ensure public safety should Illinois enact a concealed carry law.

"Enacting concealed carry into law remains one of my top priorities in office," said Reis. "As a member of the Task Force, I will be an outspoken leader for concealed carry and debate any member on the importance of preserving our Second Amendment rights."

For more information on the Firearm Public Awareness Task Force, please visit Rep. Reis' Olney district office at 219 East Main, contact him at 618-392-0108, visit his web site at www.davidreis.org or email the district office at keith@davidreis.org.

The purpose of this task force is to explore the possibility of a Right-to-Carry law in Illinois. HR 550 stipulates that the NRA will be represented on the task force. Through this position, we will continue to educate the Illinois legislature on the importance of Right-to-Carry. It is time for the Land of Lincoln to join the rest of the nation in allowing law-abiding gun owners to carry a firearm for personal protection when away from home.

Four teenagers have been charged in connection with an alleged gun theft ring suspected of stealing hundreds of guns from a suburban gun shop, Cook County prosecutors said Thursday.

The most recent case involved a burglary of more than 200 guns from Maxon Shooters Supplies in Des Plaines, according to a police report. On Sunday, thieves smashed a glass display case in the store and took the weapons, police said.

Chicago Police Supt. Garry McCarthy and Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez are expected to discuss the investigation Thursday afternoon.

Update...

Four teens were arrested following a weekend burglary at a suburban gun shop in which more than 200 firearms were stolen, authorities said Thursday.

According to Cook County prosecutors, the burglars used a sledgehammer to break through a door and protective bars early Sunday at Maxon Shooting Supplies and Indoor Range in Des Plaines.

The burglars then smashed glass display cases, grabbed more than 200 handguns and fled within minutes, ending up in Chicago, prosecutors said.

During a news conference at Chicago police headquarters, Nick Roti, chief of the department's organized crime division, described the stolen firearms as "high-quality pistols."

The burglary was among as many as a dozen recent heists of gun shops across the state, said Tom Ahern, a spokesman for the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. He said authorities will look into whether the teens were involved in those other crimes.

According to prosecutors, police recovered 24 of the stolen handguns at the homes of three of the suspects. Police could not say if any of those weapons had been used in crimes in the few days since the burglary.

After the gun shop identified the weapons stolen during the burglary, Chicago police officers from the organized crime division learned the firearms may have been taken to the Englewood neighborhood, police said.

Police were still trying to locate most of the stolen guns.

A representative of the gun shop declined to comment when reached by telephone.

Though rumor had it they were going to move, they are still located in a very secluded area. Once they (and the business next door) are closed you could do as you please back there.

You would think they had a considerable security system but apparently not insurmountable. The Des Plaines PD is less than a mile away! I guess the interior security cameras don’t run while the store is closed?

If there is one place on earth that needs less guns it’s Englewood!!!

Apparently there has been a rash of recent gun shop break-ins!

Midwest Sporting Goods, Lyons
Downrange Sports, New Lenox
Rink's Gun & Sport in Lockport
Deb's Gun Range, Hammond

The knee-jerk lawmakers are already talking about requiring that all inventory be locked in a vault at closing time. Can you imagine how much time, effort and manpower it would take to pack everything up at night and bring it out at opening at a place like GAT or worse Megasports? No doubt the costs would be passed on to us law abiding saps!

Maybe if they put these bold young criminals in jail and threw away the key instead of letting them walk early there would be less of this?

From the good people at Maxon's
"Well, it's out there. We got robbed. A BIG Thank You to our customers for all of the support that you have shown us through this bump in the road. Our wonderful employees have handled this with amazing perseverance and dedication, and the shelves are being re-stocked as we speak. The range is open, and it looks like we will be getting some new rental guns, so come on out and make lemons into lemonade. Looks like at least some of the bad guys have been caught, and guns are being recovered. Here's to the new location coming soon, and to bigger and better walls!"

A man who was being questioned by police officers in the parking lot of the Schaumburg Tilted Kilt Pub & Eatery pulled out a gun and shot himself in the head Sunday night, police confirmed.

Police would not disclose what the man was being questioned about in the parking lot at 1140 E. Higgins Road before he shot himself at about 10:45 p.m.

The man, whose identity was not available Sunday night, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The parking lot was taped off as police continued their investigation late Sunday.

Multiple officers witnessed the suicide in the lot southwest of Woodfield Mall, said Schaumburg Police Sgt. John Nebl.

No bystanders were injured.

FYI

CHAMPAIGN - The Champaign County Rifle Association said it wanted to help a teenage mother who was put in a difficult position. An Oklahoma mother shot and killed a man who broke into her home on New Years Eve.

Police took 18-year-old Sarah McKinley's shotgun as evidence. Guns Save Life President, John Boch, said he and other members in Champaign County, were moved by her story and didn't want her to be without a defense. The group raised about $500 and bought her a new shotgun.

That didn't take long...

Police Hope to Prevent Gun Shop Burglaries With New Ordinance.
By Michael Sewall

After the Downrange Sports gun shop in New Lenox was burglarized twice in December, police hope stricter security measures will prevent it from happening again in the future. Meanwhile, they continue to investigate the theft of at least 15 guns.

The village's public safety committee reviewed a new ordinance Monday that would require gun shop owners to meet various security requirements, such as putting all firearms in a safe overnight and installing silent alarms that would directly notify police.

Downrange Sports would be impacted by the new ordinance, if it's approved by the Village Board. The local shop was burglarized twice in December, with at least 15 guns stolen after unidentified people entered through a window and smashed a glass case holding the guns.

Police are still investigating those burglaries but have recovered two of the guns, one following a car chase in Shorewood and another in Joliet when a man fled on foot during a traffic stop.

"It would be in (the owner's) best interest and the community's best interest," Police Chief Bob Sterba said of the ordinance. "Lock them up."

What the Ordinance Requires
The village looked at several towns that currently have ordinances to help determine what would work well in New Lenox.

This ordinance would apply to any future gun shops, but also impact Downrange Sports. That business owner would be given some time to comply and likely exempt from a requirement that exterior walls must be of made masonry construction. The ordinance would also require that:

•All exterior entrance points and windows must be gated or barred when the building is unoccupied. That protection may not be mounted to the building's exterior.
•The entire interior of the building, except bathrooms, must be covered by video surveillance cameras that are kept in safe, locked places. Parking lots must also be covered, and lighting shall be supplied to ensure clear video.
•Firearms must be stored and protected by a silent alarm that will immediately notify police.
•Firearms must be kept in locked display cases that would need to be opened by an employee. Ammunition must also be kept somewhere not available to customers without an employee's assistance.
•No guns may be displayed where they could be visible to someone outside the building while a business is closed. A safe must be provided on site that is large enough to fit all guns during closed hours.
Downrange currently has an alarm system, but it directs to a central system before being patched over the the Lincolnway Communications Center. This ordinance would require it to immediately notify police.

"It could save anywhere from two to three minutes," Sterba said. "They're gone, driving away, before we even know about it."

Downrange also has a video surveillance system, but police have said the footage from the burglaries hasn't provided clear descriptions of the burglars. Requiring all spots to be lit and covered could help in the future.

The public safety committee, which includes Sterba and village trustees Dave Smith and Nancy Dye, were happy with the new ordinance.

"We don't want an easy mark," Smith said. "If it's easy to be broken into, it will be."

New Lenox's burglaries are part of a string of similar hits on gun shops in the Chicago suburbs, though Deputy Chief Bob Pawlisz said police aren't sure whether they're connected. Pawlisz said the department has reached out to other agencies that have had gun shop burglaries to see if there's any similarities.

Last week, police arrested four teens in connection with a Des Plaines gun shop burglary. The Lyons police called Sterba to ask about the ordinance, as they're considering something similar following a gun shop burglary there in December.

Jump in licenses to own guns possibly fueled by concealed carry hopes

By Kurt Erickson pantagraph Tuesday, January 24, 2012

SPRINGFIELD — The number of people licensed to own guns in Illinois jumped by more than 78,500 last year, possibly fueled by a belief the state was poised to legalize the concealed carry of weapons.

According to figures provided by the Illinois State Police, nearly 1.4 million people had firearm owner’s identification cards as of Jan. 1, compared to slightly more than 1.3 million the year before.

“That is a pretty big increase,” said Mark Walsh, campaign director of the Illinois Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence.

The 6.1 percent increase in FOID cards comes as Illinois continues to be a focal point among gun rights advocates as the lone state in the nation that does not allow people to carry concealed weapons in public.

The FOID card does not allow people to carry guns in public. Rather, in order to possess or purchase firearms or ammunition, residents of the state of Illinois are required to have the card.

Observers said a number of factors likely led to the surge.

State Rep. Brandon Phelps, D-Harrisburg, says interest in getting a FOID card may have risen after concealed-carry legislation was approved in Wisconsin last year.

“That may have gotten people thinking Illinois will be next,” Phelps said.

Phelps sponsored a proposal in May that would have legalized concealed weapons in Illinois. It fell six votes short of the 71 needed for passage in the Illinois House a day after Gov. Pat Quinn said he’d veto the measure if it landed on his desk.

A handful of lawsuits are pending in state and federal court in an attempt to bring Illinois gun laws in line with other states.

Attorneys involved in one of those lawsuits have been waiting since August for U.S. District Judge Sue Myerscough to issue a ruling on whether recent court decisions elsewhere provide the necessary legal grounds to overturn Illinois’ ban on concealed weapons.

In arguments before Myerscough, attorney David Jensen said the restrictions deprive Illinoisans of the right of armed self-defense.

Walsh said the 2010 lifting of a handgun ban in Chicago may have contributed to the increase.

Todd Vandermyde, who lobbies in Illinois on behalf of the National Rifle Association, said that along with the concealed-carry issue, economic instability may be leading people to feel more exposed to violence.

“You can’t put it on any one issue,” Vandermyde said.

URGENT ALERT – CHICAGO MACHINE IS COMING FOR YOUR GUNS

On Tuesday, January 24th, the Chicago gun grabbers launched a surprise attack on your gun rights by moving two pieces of extremist anti-gun legislation out of committee and on to the House floor for consideration.

The first bill is HB1294. This bill would require the ban and forced confiscation of every semiautomatic firearm you own.

The second bill is HB1599. If passed, this bill would increase jail time for owners of any guns banned by HB1294.

THE MACHINE PLAN IS CLEAR – THEY WANT TO MAKE IT A FELONY FOR YOU TO EXERCISE YOUR 2ND AMENDMENT RIGHTS!

These two bills are not just random attacks on your rights! They have been carefully drafted and coordinated by some of the Chicago Machine’s most ardent gun grabbers to include: Rep. Edward Acevedo; Rep. Ann Williams; Rep. Greg Harris; Rep. Barbara Flynn Currie; Rep. Karen May; Rep. Carol Sente; Rep. Deborah Mell (Blago’s sister-in-law); and Rep. Marlow Colvin.

IF THESE BILLS PASS, YOU WILL HAVE 90 DAYS TO SURRENDER YOUR GUNS TO THE POLICE OR THE POLICE WILL BE COMING TO YOUR DOOR TO TAKE YOUR GUNS TO THE FURNACE, AND YOU TO THE PENITENTIARY.

This is the beginning of what could be a very bad year for law-abiding Illinois gun owners. The Chicago Machine does not care about the 2nd Amendment and is dead set on taking your guns away from you. They are not patriots; they are not lovers of freedom; they are not Americans. These people have no respect for our Constitution or the ideals of liberty and self determination envisioned by the Founding Fathers. They know that private firearm ownership is the bedrock of liberty and, if they can take your guns away from you, then they will be able to condemn you and your family to a life of servitude – groveling before the Machine for life’s necessities.

HERE IS WHAT YOU MUST DO TO HELP PROTECT YOUR RIGHTS:

1. Use the link below to identify your State Representative and politely advise your Representative that you oppose HB1294 and HB1599 and that you expect them to vote against those bills if they come to the House floor for a vote.

Gary, Ind., Fast Food Worker’s Concealed Gun Helps Foil Robbery

(CBS) – The Indiana law that allows licensed residents to carry concealed firearms has apparently helped break up what could have been a bloody robbery.

As CBS2’s Mike Parker reports, Gary police said two armed men wearing ski masks burst into the Rally’s at Broadway and Washington on Jan. 11 and tried to rob the place.

During the attempted heist, one of the employees pulled out a gun he was carrying and shot one of the would-be thieves. They both took off and one of them collapsed and died outside the restaurant.

Gary Police Detective Del Stout said the robbers picked the wrong place for a stickup.

“They certainly did. It was their bad luck that day,” Stout said.

The body of 24-year-old *** of Merrillville was found later in a vacant lot behind the restaurant. The other robber got away.

It appears the employee who shot *** won’t face charges. Concealed carrying of firearms is legal in Indiana.

Stout said, “While we don’t encourage people being robbed to take the law into their own hands, it did work out in this instance. There is no telling what might have happened if the employee had not had a weapon.”

Three weeks ago, a gunman and an accomplice robbed and roughed up the owner of a Northwest Side pizzeria in Chicago. It was a brutal incident that was caught on surveillance video. Although concealed carry in Illinois is illegal, it is legal for a business owner to keep a registered firearm – not on his person, but on the premises.

Is that victim now mulling it over?

***, whose father was terrorized, said his dad “doesn’t like guns. He feels that he’s from the 50’s or 1960’s, from the old days when you don’t have to carry a gun.”

However, *** added, “I would probably have one, yes , for safety reasons but I don’t know if I could use one.”

Police Hope to Prevent Gun Shop Burglaries With New Ordinance.

I don't see a problem with this? They are telling a gun shop, which by nature is a target for thieves, to lock up their stock at night, and to have a good security system. Sounds like common sense to me. Jewelry stores lock up their jewelry in the vault every night. If they don't and they are burglarized, the insurance company won't cover it! Most of them also have pretty good surveillance systems, too.

I think by being proactive, you can prevent the types of burglaries that recently made the news.
