Sold my 18 inch TT2’s got these installed last week…. Kept the tires for the new wheels..
New 18 inch polished aluminum Rally Wheel replicas by American Racing. 18x8 all around with 4 inch backspace.
The tires are Nitto N55G2 255/45R18 giving a total wheel/ tire diameter of 27.1 inches.
These wheels were embarrassingly EXPEN$IVE …. And That may be an understatement…. Custom ordered…
Entire suspension is now rebuilt like new…
Even the mono spring was replaced.. too high… so took a Combo of old springs and new main spring (had it re bowed) and added 9 inch lowering bolts to the rear.
All that is left to do is install new bumpers… paint, weatherstripping, convertible top, and carpet..
Person sitting in my car is Patrick Knight… the legendary Corvette Mechanic that I hired to rebuild the suspension.
The distance between the top of the rear tires and fender lip is now 1.5 inches on my car.
My wheel tire combo is 27 inches in diameter on 18 inch wheels …which is the same stock diameter with original 15 inch wheels and tires….
I went with the BDE lowering bolt kit because they are to only ones I know of who not only sell a great package…. But also sell 9 inch bolts. Everyone else sells 8 inch. They also sell on eBay..but I purchased from their website.
Oddly enough.. the 18x8 wheels with 27 inch diameter tires had zero clearance issues except one spot on the right front tire slightly rubbing at full turn on the rear of the right front wheel well…
The fix was to cut a 1/4 inch out in 1 spot… nobody would know unless I told them…and then they would never notice even after looking at it…
im looking at going with 17s up front and 18s in the rear, and i know nothing about backspacing and offset. and this thread is 48 pages long...
this would be on a 69, mostly stock front end (just different springs and shocks), and vbp monospring in the back. stock TAs. im currently running 235/60/15s up front, and 275/60/15s in back, with a relocated parking brake bracket. realistically i dont think i need to go much, if any, wider than the stock 8"s.
does anyone know the exact sizes i should be looking for so i can just bolt em on and run?
Jetglow,
I purchased the Ride Tech Street Grip package and want do do the style of wheel you chose.
Questions Did you have to move the e-brake bracket? Are your tailing arms stock? Do you think a 235 50 18 up front would have prevented the rubbing?
Thanks,
I think the slight rub in right front was due to the building process back in the day… I think one car will rub on the right.. another may not rub at all…
no rubbing issues or e brake issues in the back… stock with lowering bolts..
