It's time to install the lock and the door panel.......jack the car and install new speedometer driven gear.......go for a test drive to check speedometer reading against GPS.
The original latch and the rebuilt lock are installed and work perfectly............
Now to order the stainless pushbutton door bezels (I should have polished the stainless button/no big deal--I'll remove the lock and polish it when I install bezel).....painting the doors is in the near future.

If I remember correctly, the stainless steel bezel is actually the same one used on the trunk locks on the older (58-62) Corvettes.... Corvette trivia!
Very ingenious fix for your lock, DG. Lou.

I got the idea from another forum member.....I just had to adapt the '68 female end and extension so it would open the door....and THANKS!

I had to take the in-laws to eat today, so didn't have time to install the door panel or the new speedo-gear......hopefully tomorrow!
The door metal is actually a green-yellow color........
Finally I am working on the speedometer new driven gear.....the gear sleeve /gear is removed......
The TH400 has a green drive gear......it sure is nice and crusty under there, but that cleaning project will get done when the body is lifted for new mounts............
I installed a green driven gear.........the new cable is just the right length---no tight bend at the transmission...........
I'll install the door panel and test drive the car tomorrow....if the speedometer is not correct I will have to change the drive and driven gears.

Are you sure??? often times you only have to change the driven gear and not the gear on the main shaft. Have you used a speedometer calculator??? You can get it right without test driving it to find out.

Thanks DUB......the allergies/sinus have my wittle bwain fried! I'll go to the calculator as soon as I double-check the tire diameter
Gunner, UPS said package should be there Friday. Hope everything is fine with you.
Me, I just put sidemount headers, new tires, torque thrusts on a beautifully running stock 69, test run last night started, sounded, running great. Two miles down road just dies, found loose wire on alternator tightened, battery good, get nothing, hopefully maybe bad ground, had car up and down bunch of times maybe loosened, oh well, comes with territory.
Good luck.
..........Jack, Thanks for the P.M. And...... I'm starting to think that this is another episode caused by me being soaked with Agent Orange while I was in Nam...non of the OTC medicines are touching-lessening my symptoms---it's been a couple years since it was this bad.....OHHHH WELL!

I'll keep both eyes pealed/peeled! I added an extra ground from my starter housing to a cleaned spot on the frame and also replaced the corroded negative battery cable when I was having similar problems.....the neutral safety switch also loosened causing the solenoid not to engage...all of those problems had me going in circles.
I'm still feeling too bad to test drive the car to check the new driven gear and the rebuilt soft top
