Got some my new oil seal in, and apparently third time is the charm! I dug out my seal driver set, and found the right size for this seal, lubricated it, and very carefully drove it in: success!

I also got my oil pump pickup install tool, had to use some serious hammer effort to get it in, but she's installed now. Popped a tack on it to be safe as well.

Opened up the one piece oil pan gasket: came with new bolts! Nice setup from Fel-Pro. Oil pan is on, but the paint isn't a perfect match, and it's starting to crack in certain areas.. I'm going to have to strip it down and paint it with the matching POR15 engine enamel to make it perfect.

Next up was to get the differential back into the car.

First task was to carefully press the new bushings into the diff crossmember without damaging the fresh powder coat.. Getting those things pressed in straight was difficult, but I got them in without any damage

Back on the diff, and ready to go into the frame

I lifted the trans in place with a trans jack, and started by installing the new front bushing at hardware, then bolted in the crossmember: went in easily without a fuss!

Here's where I currently stand: front suspension on and diff is in, it's starting to look like a chassis again!

Moved on with the rear end today and got the trailing arms installed. This was really easy with my transmission jack ,and they went right in without a fight (fresh parts are so nice!)

Next was the shocks and the new adjustable struts. Struts are the "Auto Pro USA" which is the manufacturer that makes 99% of these struts all vendors sell. They're a really nice piece!

Changing out hardware as I go, so much cleaner!

After searching for the half shaft bearing caps for 10 min, I realized they were in a red solo cup after EvapoRust treatment! They had a little flash rust on them, so I threw them in the blast cabinet, then treated them to some fresh black paint.

This made sense to me for hanging them to paint lol

I didnt see anyone answer your brake caliper question. Bleeders ALWAYS go on top ( to get the air out). looks like swapping the fronts will take care of that for you.

I just wrapped up redoing the entire driveline on my 67' chassis, wish I would have pulled the body......yours is looking great!

Thanks for clarifying that for me!!

I'm glad I pulled the body off, but definitely underestimated the time/money it would take! I'm building the best car I'm capable of building at this point, and so far I'm proud of my work! Hope i'll be able to say the same about the paint job LOL

Well I started shopping Vintage Air systems, because now's the time to install it, and I live in Louisiana! I found a good deal (free shipping and no tax) so I pulled the trigger, considering it's going to take 6-8 weeks to get delivered! Not cheap, but a must have! Hopefully that's the last big expense for a while!!

I did recently notice that my short water pump probably won't clear the Cloyes timing cover (needed for roller cam) without shims.. This will make my belts off a little bit... Who's dealt with this, and how did you handle it?

I went with the Vintage Air system as well.
I can’t wait to get it installed.
That bits about the water pump and the timing cover.
I remember it was a high concern for me.
I went with the short water pump and timing cover from Edelbrock and even called their tech support to confirm they would clear one another.
They even sent me pictures showing the clearances on their complete engine builds.

Yeah we have brutal summers here, Vintage Air is a must have! Rather install it now while the car is apart, then come back in the future.

Did the Edelbrock timing cover have a cam button for a roller cam? I thought the Cloyes would fit, but apparently it doesn't clear. It's a clever design, hopefully I can make it work.

I’m running a Crane roller cam and it fit perfectly.

First of all, I wanted to complement you on the work you’ve done. Awesome! I wish I had half your energy and/or half your tenacity.

I have the same timing cover and a Stewart water pump. I solved the interference issue by grinding part of the heads off two bolts on the back of the water pump. If I ever need to take the pump apart, I’ll just replace the bolts.

At the risk of adding to your budget and contributing to the delinquency of a fellow tool guy, I picked up this toy years ago. I’ve had bits of old grease pushed out of bearings that I had thoroughly cleaned and greased by hand. Does the job quickly and easily.

I'll vouch for that tool, an auto shop I used to work in had one.
I've seen that put in a vice and used to press the halves together to grease the bearings.

I hadn't thought it would stand the abuse.

Thanks for the link, I'll have to pick one up.

I did notice the corvette short water pump almost touches the timing cover on both the BB & SBC. At Jeffs race shop we don't use any fancy timing covers on the race engines anyway. Just weld a little washer / spacer on the factory one. It basically touches the water pump which supports it. Grind / bend to fit the cam button inside with the proper clearance.
I'll see if I can find a pic.

usually the bolts are whats hitting the cover check iot and if its the bolt heads, swap them for button head socket bolts. they are low profile and solved the water pump issue on my small block
