I'm picking up my rebuilt engine this weekend or on Monday. After reading this thread I will be very nervous until I get it cranked up. Good luck pulling it out today, and I hope they stand behind their product.
You won't cause any trouble by debating a topic, and it is ok to say something that might not be true, accurate or right, I've done this many times and have been quickly set straight! Lets face it, nobody right 100% all of the time. But this is how we all get a better understanding of our hobby. The only time you’ll get into trouble is if you post something that is or could be interpreted as being disrespectful to others, or just plain annoying, just look at Yellow73SB's past posts.
Now, Twin_turbo suggests that cast iron material, over a long period of time, is being pushed like clay to the top of the cylinder forming that classic ridge that we see in a high mileage engine, if I'm understanding him correctly.
That ridge is formed from the contact of the rings with the cylinder wall. At the point of combustion, the rings are loaded to their fullest and are forced against the cylinder at TDC. As the piston travels down the cylinder wall, this load becomes progressively less, forming the classic cylinder taper that is seen in a high mileage engine. That is why there is no ridge at the bottom. If the clay theory were true, then cast iron would be pushed down the cylinder walls and re-deposited along the length of the stroke, and eventually the engine would seize.
If you are serious I will chip in a few bucks.....cash, sent to you to manage.
NO No No......not serious......lol......I could actually afford a lot more motor than I bought, I just figured that was all I needed, or wanted to put in without making rear end and tranny changes.
Thanks anyway!!
As to the update someone asked about.....Gonna try and get the motor pulled this afternoon and take it for the 3rd party inspection Monday. Then I have to ship it back (at there cost) to Marshall Engines for their warranty inspection. I sure they will hit me for the shipping fee is they determine it to be my fault. Detonation is the determining factor, and I'll know that answer Monday, I hope. It sure doesn't appear to from detonation however.

My d/d POS Olds Calais detonates (pings) all the way to work, hasn't blown up yet with 145,000 on the odometer.

I think, I am not sure though, that it is almost 20,000 different people looking at the thread. If you click on it a few times the counter doesn't go up, at least it doesn't on mine
I believe the counter is set up so that you are counted only once every 15 minutes or so. This is pretty common with web page counters and such.
For example, if the timer is set to 15 minutes you can read the message as many times as you want within 15 minutes and you will be only counted once. If you read the message again after 16 minutes you would be counted a second time, and so on. If you want to know for sure, delete your cookies and then read the message again. I bet the counter goes up...
Good luck with the engine pull MSVette, hopefully all goes well this weekend. Be sure to have a few cold brews on standby in case things get rough!

gee i get busy at work and i miss everything......so are we saying that the ridge is only from wear? bolts stretch, heads warp....doesn't metal even cast iron move....even if it may be microscopically??? and to answer about the lower part of the cylinder being different ...the rings are differnet at the bottom of the piston....i wouldn't expect the wear to be similar.

It ain't the first time. But we won't talk about that.
I'f everyone who looked at this thread donated 10 cents we could buy him a new motor.

I have watched this thread with interest for several days. I feel your pain in dealing with an unscrupulous vendor. I am not an attorney, but I believe that you have significant evidence to send this vendor to jail for wire or mail fraud. The vendors misrepresentation of the engine as evidenced by the cylinder bore pics and sales specs comparison, you are in a position to shut this business down. They should refund your money plus pay for your trouble, and shipping costs, or you should file fraud charges in Federal court. Their "warranty" is of no validity in interstate commerce. They are just trying to scare off potential law suits. They cannot force you into their courts because it is an interstate transaction and as such is covered under Federal Law. Notify your credit card company and contact your attorney. Have your attorney find an attorney that specializes in interstate consumer abuse /fraud cases. Since attorney's cost $$$ you need to call your local US Department of justice office to report this flagrant interstate fraud.
