OMG! Flames!!!!!! Ugh! That one tip caused me an entire day of pain!!!! I finally just sanded them all off again and now we have storms tomorrow so I guess I shouldn't paint when it's raining!!!! Crap!!! Frustrated but still smiling...:-)
I am in paint he'll right now! I don't understand the problem. I sanded done the flames and decided to just not paint flames at this point. Base coat 1 fine, base coat 2 fine, base coat 3 bubble!!!! What is going wrong! Waited 30 min between coats. 1 small bubble now start over, I am so stressed!
Well I took my wife's advice! It's not a show car, it's a driver. Sanded out the bubble and shot the clear. If you are looking for the flaws you can sure see them oh well!
70MPH down the road you won't even notice them!
I was so frustrated when I painted my 84 with chameleon I wanted to cry. I waited 25 mins between coats of clear and the paint actually lifted and had blotches all over it.. I later found out there were time restrictions between clear coats with the brand of paint I used of less that 15 mins or wait 24hrs and sand between clear coats. I ended up painting the whole car twice and had issues because of all the layers of paint. I swore this time around I'm keeping it simple and safe. base and clear and follow directions to a t... and give everything time to cure!
Good luck man I feel your pain.... just dont point out all the flaws to everyone who looks at your car like I did...
I have had those just cry moments in the past 24 hours! I finally sucked up and said "Let's get it on!" It will be ok.
If I hadn't used a metallic it wouldn't have been nearly as big of a problem though. Note to self! If you are going to paint flames, use no metallic paint until you have painted several cars. Hahahaha
Scott, I never thought about it but I know there are a couple books out there about painting flames. Probably too late now, I should have recommended that before you committed to shooting them.
I'm sure this isn't the last time you'll attempt something like this, so you might want to consider getting a book on the subject...
Also, it's a rare painter who won't admit to at least one or two annoying mistakes every time he paints a car. You really bit off a big chunk with this deal... certainly nobody can fault your ambition, you just need a bit more practice. That car is still gonna look awesome and you'll have nothing to hang your head about. VERY impressive overall...

Thanks bro! After I shot the first coat of clear all the pain went away! I did a fair amount of reading before I did the flames and thought I had complete control over the process. Oh well! I am thinking maybe 78 TA next time or Maybe a 57 Chevy. Hahahaha
fat cat it all looks good to me your not invested in a poser or a trailer queen so let her rip . if the flames peel on the highway on the madien voyage just showes how much power the new motor makes....LOL looks awsome keep going.
If you decide you must have flames, think of having the front vinyl wrapped with the flames in the vinyl. I have no doubt you could do the wrap yourself and it's not expensive. In the mean time, the car looks great and its time to drive the thing. Enjoy it, cause you deserve it. Good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks brotha! I figure I will save the flames for another project a this point. I am hoping to sand and polish this week just in time for a date at the drive in next weekend!!

that, FC, sounds like a challenge you should be able to knock out of the ballpark
I am so sad about the loss of life in our great state. Oklahoma will survive and I pray for all the families who lost everything in these storms. Tornados are the most devastating force in nature (IMO). I can't help but think of all the little babies who went to school today with hopes of the great Summer vacation ahead only to not make it home tonight. God rest their souls and bring peace that passeth all understanding to their families.
