The navtool wire has 2 grey plugs connected with a bunch of green wires and then from the mass of green wires, 4 or 5 come out long enough to come from the BCM area in the passenger foot well over to the driver's foot well and to the kick panel. The driver's kick panel has the HMI. The navtool is going to be located in this area and it will connect to the HMI using 2 blue wires and connectors. The wire from the passenger side audio box will connect to the navtool.

The wire for mirroring is the HDMI cable that you need to connect the navtool via HDMI to your iPhone.

Elmer,

Thanks for the explanation and the photos. That was helpful. How are you planning to snake the wire from the passenger side to the drivers side?

OK, remove the word "think". He is 100% correct that there are 4 RCA jacks on wires to allow you to hook in 4 video feeds. I will only be using jack #1 for my front camera. The other 3 will be spare. I'll send them to you if you need to have 7 video rca inputs!

Also, I would imagine that the guys closer to New York will have their units (or not) on Monday. Mine is due in on Tuesday before end of day. I'll gladly post fresh pictures of the box and whatever I find inside on the forum. My communications with Navtool have been civil and prompt. Navtool supplied me with pictures and I didn't request them. The wire from the audio unit over to the Navtool in the driver's foot well was a big portion of the delay. Navtool wanted to insure that any problem with the HDMI link would not cause adverse conditions on any system function in the car.

Personally, I'm glad they took their time to do it safely. Sending the units out without instructions was a no-no but I think we've been given enough information on this forum to do the install without issues.

I am going to pop out the driver's side kick panel to see where and how I can install the Navtool to give me access to the USB port in case I need to reset the display. I might not ever use the HDMI link but you need to get a USB hook up to reprogram the display from 4 cameras and streaming and such.

I hope to report that it was a snap to install and that it works as advertised. I hope your experience will be the same but until you actually get the unit, relax and read the information that comes up on here from the others who got the Navtool.

Elmer

I'm going to use the same tried and true method I've used many times before and the same method for this run should work nicely. I have this very fancy tool called a coat hanger wire. I simply gently inserted it under the dash and aimed it toward the other side and after a little wiggling, it popped out and voila, electricians tape on the wire end and pulled it right through!

Great minds think alike; exactly what I'm planning to do. However, I was thinking of trying to place the NavTool box on the instrument panel lower trim panel, below the steering column (like the piece we're removing below the glove box, only this being driver side version), if there is enough room in there for it to set. That piece would be easier to remove than the kick-panel if we need access to the NavTool box.

Whatcha think?? Might work??

Might be room in there, I don't know. I plan on exploring the territory to find a nice mounting location. It all depends on the length of the blue leads as to where we can locate it. After I get to that last point of the installation, I'll find it a home. I even thought of mounting it on the inside of the kick panel with wire ties. 2 holes in the KP and it could be strapped to the top edge completely out of sight, a little Velcro to cushion it from vibration but I won't make a firm location until I tear stuff apart and can see what space is available to fit the unit.

Old people are very resourceful.

So Elmer, it sounds like once you get your unit you are going to post your installation method. Is that right? I think it will really help a lot of guys out.

This has been a real interesting ride so far, and I'm really hopeful the workmanship on those NavTool supplied connectors are top notch otherwise we are going to have a lot of broken units and lots of dissatisfied customers. I think this is my biggest concern at the moment (other than getting it in my hands to begin with).

I've been loosely following this thread, I find it hard to believe you folks are actually discussing an install.

Since you are proficient with electronic installation, can you put together a video or pictures telling the story of how to do it? Please feel free to use a crayon a paint a picture for us 4th graders that need it. I plan to do mine but a little concerned about splicing into electronics. Thanks in advance.

I hope that is the case just concerned because of all the inaccurate information provided by Navtool. Not sure what to believe anymore. I hope people that know there way around installation post their experiences and any tips to make it easier or a better install. I have been sitting on the sidelines of all the drama and just getting around to posting now that it seems like they are starting to ship.

When I install, I'll post pictures of what I end up doing for the navtool location. Not much room in there for me and a camera and trying to take a picture and doing the install. We'll do the best we can.

It really doesn't look too hard to do.

At this point if I'm lucky my unit will ship Monday but I'm not holding my breath with the failure of 2 other times they said it was going to ship. If it does ship I won't see it for at least a week since I'm in SoCal. So I won't be able to start the install until the following weekend if nothing comes up. If others have not provided any pictures and info from their install then I will.

Not packaged very well. It was placed in a UPS pad pack and then in a UPS box. I guess I was expecting more professional packaging.

BTW.....there were no instructions
Has this one been installed yet?
