I tried to do a search on this thread for some reason it said zero mentions of the hood. Not sure if I'm doing the search right (CMND+F function). Does GM have a solution for this already? Or is it something they have to work out.
If there's no solution, I'm considering installing racing hood latches. I really don't want to but I'd rather not risk this stupid trunk opening up on me like that especially on the circuit track or highway.

Last time I checked the NHSTA had 7 specific complaints of "flying frunks" from 7 different owners. If you add your "flying frunk" complaint to the NHSTA site you'll be number 8.

I read that somewhere I think it was on Drive.com. That’s extremely disturbing. There’s no way to know when this will happen. Thankfully it happened at 30 miles an hour. These cars are designed to hit almost 200 miles an hour. I can’t imagine what would happen at that speed. I bought this car as a dedicated circuit track car. I can’t risk that happening at high speeds. I’m debating whether I should try to lemon the car or hood pin it. I don’t particularly like the look of hood pins though. Also with all the other problems that other c8 guys are having (trans failure, paint peeling, axle failure), I just don’t know if mine is a ticking time bomb at this point.
What do you guys think? I also found out from the dealer that my car was delayed in quality control for two weeks

its a serious safety issue. Does that not apply? I thought it applies if it keeps you from driving it or if it poses a direct threat to your safety and it cannot be resolved. (Replacing hinges and repainting the car is a bandaid until it happens again).... I’m sure it wouldn’t pass nhtsa safety if it did this on their test car. Genuinely trying to figure this out, but at the same time I’m not going to play Russian roulette with my life or others. I won’t even sell this car to someone. It’s dangerous.

Do you know if they found a solution to the problem? It’s one thing to have an issue, and it’s another thing to have an issue that the manufacturer refuses to address.

Having the hood covering your field of view would limit you driving it. Not knowing when it will happen is another one.
How many people probably have not filed a complaint thinking they messed up and kept it hush hush. In real world numbers be a lot more than 8 cars. Good thing to know GM looking after their customers with swift action.
I hear what you're saying, but the "New" GM has had 11 years now to get their act together and as best I can tell by their last response to the "flying frunk" problem being a user issue all I'm seeing is the same Old GM. The same old GM is a GM where a problem isn't fixed until the problem becomes more expensive than the fix.
The other problem with the "New" GM is that it desperately needs to change the way it allows its franchised dealerships to go completely rogue and continue to prey upon customers. As the owner of the franchise GM can exercise great control on it's franchisees IF IT WANTS TO. In order to exercise real change you have to show that you actually want to change. I see no evidence that GM wants to change. If GM did exercise their control over their franchisees you wouldn't see rampant "bait and switch" tactics such as introducing a $10k premium at delivery on a C8 order that a customer waited on for a year or longer. You wouldn't see dealers charging $40k over MSRP. GM simply needs to take out the "S" of MSRP. If this type of positive change were to occur you wouldn't see hundreds of people flocking to a handful of dealers for their C8 orders.
Real positive change can be shown in a lot of ways. One way to gauge real change is how well a company is doing in terms of its long term stock performance. Look at these charts which shows that GM hasn't been able to increase and maintain its stock price above the IPO price of the New GM back in 2010. The fact that GM can't keep up with the major stock indices tells me a lot. As far as Mary B is concerned I would think she'd have a lot of more important things to do than fight a grudge match with Fiat Chrysler. As a Corvette fan I think the best thing that could happen would be for Corvette to spin off from GM.

Think about the few that are burning down cities and throwing rocks at police officers all across the USA, it’s the few that cause the most disruption, very similar. GM is a better company but turning a company around of this size with many old engineers and other employees still in the organization takes more than 10 years to move them out. My analogy ( GM is like an Aircraft carrier in a pond, it takes a long time to turn them in the other direction. If I felt the way you did, no way I am on this forum wasting my time and NO way I would be buying a C8 or anything from GM. This is not a knock how you feel it just pointless as their are way to many other sports cars you can buy and not have this headache. When you have such strong feelings no way GM could measure up, if anything goes wrong you will spiral, to me not worth it. This is why I left the brand in the 80’s to only come back in the 2000’s, if they fail me I will move on and buy something else.

C8PRO What happened in your situation? I am in the same situation and the problem started with just 10 miles on the vehicle now they are going to replace the Transmission? this sucks i didnt even put any miles on the vehicle.

It varies by state, but this is not true at all. Generally if the dealer cant fix the same issue 3 times, or if the vehicle has been out of service for 20 days (cumulative) during the first 2 years or 24,000 miles, it's considered a lemon. If the frunk pops again and you don't feel safe driving it - it fits the description, but GM is saying it's the owners not closing it properly. There are many lawyers that can get a car lemon'ed with very little effort for a fee.

1) The first day I got the vehicle the lift raise and lower button sticks when you push it. Then it gives an error. This issue is not a big deal, but still shouldn't happen.
2) I was out with my daughter cruising around and all of a sudden I smelt coolant. Then the smell got worse and noticed the temp rising up from 180 to 230. Got the thing home and it was loud as can be trying to cool the engine down and the fans ran for about 10 minutes until it was cool enough. I noticed coolant leaking and the back bumper full of coolant. Not sure if a hose came off or what, but I don't trust any dealers around me to look at it so waiting for MacMulkin to see if GM will cover the tow to NH from MA.
I'm not tracking the number and type of problems new owners are having but if this forum represents only a small percentage of buyers I wonder what the true picture is in terms of cars with problems. Based on long term forum members with multiple cars do you feel the C8 is about average for new model issues?

Bummer! I'd be amazed if they will tow it from NH to MA on their dime. I had several tows with my C6 and from what I remember every mile over from your breakdown tow point to the dealership was on YOUR dime at the going rate.
Between the problems I'm reading about here and on Facebook, The GM Authority and the Corvette Blogger I'm starting to get some strong mixed feelings about the C8. I'm not sure about others, but the C8 bloom is beginning to fade for me. I'd almost like to tune out for awhile, but can't afford to bury my head in the sand and I feel like I need to see the good, the bad and the ugly. I'm extremely UNHAPPY about GM and its age old habit of ignoring problems like the frunk lid. I'm also bummed out with my recent Chevy dealership experience. I love the C8, but reliability is my top priority. The beauty of the C8 goes right out the window when you see it on top of a tow truck or dealer lift. I want a sports car that I can depend on as my daily driver and for touring. Hopefully GM will get its act together while I wait on the 2021. Unlike most on this forum I'm in no rush to take delivery.
