I feel the same, never planned to buy a new one but now on the fence for a lightly used one. Like you, reliability is a prime factor in my decision. I'll sit on the fence and continue to follow this forum.
Instead of complaining - more than enough available, I am here to say that every one of the 42 items on the PDI SS was non existent on my C8. It was my personal requirement for payment! FIt, finish, seats, ... are great!
There is plenty of time for problems to develop as I have not hit 500 yet, but it exceeds my expectations on ALL Levels. I'll keep monitoring, but It has been better than my wonderful Malibu so far. My hood parts arrive in a few hours and that possible problem will have a safety BU JIC until the "NTSB" figures it out. But like any large Fortune company in the US, CS always Sucx.
Not sure if a hose came off or what, but I don't trust any dealers around me to look at it so waiting for MacMulkin to see if GM will cover the tow to NH from MA.
I thought that was the appeal. It is a Chevy and can be serviced anywhere? Not a fancy exotic that needs to be towed 100's of miles to the nearest dealer.
Bummer! I'd be amazed if they will tow it from NH to MA on their dime. I had several tows with my C6 and from what I remember every mile over from your breakdown tow point to the dealership was on YOUR dime at the going rate.
Between the problems I'm reading about here and on Facebook, The GM Authority and the Corvette Blogger I'm starting to get some strong mixed feelings about the C8. I'm not sure about others, but the C8 bloom is beginning to fade for me. I'd almost like to tune out for awhile, but can't afford to bury my head in the sand and I feel like I need to see the good, the bad and the ugly. I'm extremely UNHAPPY about GM and its age old habit of ignoring problems like the frunk lid. I'm also bummed out with my recent Chevy dealership experience. I love the C8, but reliability is my top priority. The beauty of the C8 goes right out the window when you see it on top of a tow truck or dealer lift. I want a sports car that I can depend on as my daily driver and for touring. Hopefully GM will get its act together while I wait on the 2021. Unlike most on this forum I'm in no rush to take delivery.
Based on your concerns I would move on, there are other vehicles that would better complement your needs and expectations.
You are correct. However, my concern is most dealers near me haven't even seen one of these things at their dealership. GM would haul the first 30 miles and I was on the hook for the rest...Kind of figured.
I had it sent to one locally that has one certified guy. Never worked on one though so it's a little concerning. We will see how it shakes out.
What other very cool sports cars that are more reliable would you suggest?
As it was when I bought my 2001, there was and is no DIRECT competition to the C8 regarding performance for the money. However, if you want something that is super-reliable yet more expensive when new, the Lexus LC500 is and will be trouble-free for many years. You can pick up a 2018 for $75K or less with low mileage. It is a beautiful car that weighs quite a bit more and is not as fast, but the stress level of owning one is so much less.
I also think a Supra will be reliable if Toyota is confident that the BMW engine will hold up over time.
The Lotus Evora has a Toyota engine and overall, high tech electronics are not very numerous, so a manual trans version should be more reliable than a C8.
The Mercedes SL 550 and E63 AMG are also very nice cars, albeit more expensive when new. Wait a couple years and you can pick one up for about half price. That is what I did when I traded my C7.

38 miles total on vehicle
still at dealership transmission skips from 1-3-5 been at the dealership since July 28 I drove it home and it was skipping all the way home. I did not realize what it was doing till about 3 miles up the road. 24 days later it is still not fixed and GM is not helping.
Very disturbing....
I hope they are able to fix these DCT issues soon. I’m on Maui. Can’t imagine how long it would take to fix a DCT failure here. Shipping anything to Hawaii takes 6-8 weeks minimum, and that’s pre-COVID.
Problems
i had to take my c8 to get serviced twice within a month and a half. The check engine light keeps coming on. Anyone else having similar problems ?
