Simon Solomon was arrested in the Cook County forest preserve for carrying concealed firearms while fishing. He had a valid Illinois concealed carry license, however Cook County Forest Preserves are listed as prohibited areas in the Illinois Firearm Concealed Carry Licensing Act.
The case was later dismissed due to the skillful ability of his lawyer, Marshall Libert, but the story does not end there. In fact, it is just the beginning. Simon Solomon and Marshal Libert felt it was a violation of Solomon’s rights prohibiting him to carry in just one of the 102 county forest preserves in the state of Illinois.

This year and this month, our nation should be especially mindful of those gatherings altered tragically by gun violence across the country. It is not a new problem, obviously, especially in our area, but the failure to reduce these tragedies is a tragedy of our own making. We have enacted important measures but more is urgently needed to curb the flow of guns to our streets and save innocent lives.

Three people were robbed at gunpoint early Saturday morning in the South Loop, Chicago police said.
A man and two women were getting into a car when a black SUV bumped into the back of their vehicle just before 1 a.m., according to authorities.
When they got out of the car, four men got out of the SUV and aimed guns at them, demanding that they get on the ground. The victims’ wallets, cell phones, and keys were stolen, and the four men then fled the scene in the SUV.
According to police, no one was injured during the robbery, and no one is in custody. Area Central detectives are investigating the incident.
Oh, Happy Holidays BTW...
Police are warning Northwest Side businesses about three robberies that happened in November.

The 7-0 ruling came in the criminal case of Julio Chairez, who had appealed his 2013 conviction for having a gun near Aurora’s Virgil Gilman Trail park, just west of Chicago. In addition to striking the law, Thursday’s ruling also vacated Chairez’s conviction.
The 25-page opinion, penned by Chief Justice Lloyd Karmeier, says the law — in its scope — functions as “a categorical prohibition without providing an exception for law-abiding individuals.” He adds: “It is therefore a severe burden on the recognized second amendment right of self-defense.”

"All mentally ill people are not dangerous or violent by any means," said the Senator.
Durbin toured the hospital during a stop in the Metro East to support the congressional campaign of St. Clair County State's Attorney Brendan Kelly, who Durbin has endorsed.
“Rather than undercutting and gutting Medicare and gutting Medicaid and attacking the expansion of healthcare, we need to move back in the other direction in making these services more available to folks. Because if we don't, in the end, it ultimately affects people's public safety,” said Kelly.
So, how does Durbin propose keeping guns out of the hands of those with mental illness who are violent?
“We've got to get sensible about background checks when it comes to firearms,” said Durbin.
