generally speaking the idle circuit gets plugged. About 50% of the time, you can fix it with simply spraying carb cleaner. 25% of the time (of the remainder) you can fix it by pulling the carb apart and soaking it in carb cleaner overnight.... the other 25% of the time, it's something odd in the carb or something in the fuel supply system - e.g. failing fuel pump, blocked or collapsed line, plugged return line, or even a blocked vent

When u spray the cleaner, do you let it sit a while or start it right up?

doesn't really matter - use it like brake cleaner to blow the carbon off the venturi(s) and fuel inlets. The hope is you'll get whatever is blocking your idle ports to wash off.

Not trying to argue but understand so, what difference would it make to clean off the idle ports if when you work the throttle it still wont stay running?

valid question

if it won't idle, there is something blocking the ports (meaning the motor is too lean to run properly) - if it's cold (especially) when you work the throttle you flood the motor... in short, you go from too lean to too rich with the squirt of a booster.

the next step, if the spray doesn't work is see if the booster is working

Some fresh gas and check the choke should fix it. Make sure the choke is moving freely and that its not staying shut too long. The weather is a little warmer and the choke may need a tweak.

Just when you think you're done - do it twice more.... I HATE sanding, however, past indiscretions affect my ability to keep sanding for hours without morphine - so there is a bit of that in my hate.

That doesn't sound like a good deal SBG! As previously stated I enjoy the sanding. Hahaha there is something about taking a rough surface and smoothing it perfectly that just does it for me... Hahaha anyway progress is coming!

Default Valve Lash

Hey guys, just some quick info; if you ever need to readjust the valve lashes again, try this tool from this website. It is simply a magnetic vinyl strip with graphics that wraps around your harmonic damper and shows you each valve to adjust. It's pretty cool and cheap. I got one to use on my C6 after I replaced the OEM rockers with a set of Comp Cams rollers and the engine fired up quickly, ran smoothly with no noise, and I have never had to readjust them again.

Anyway, just thought I'd let you know that.

OMG! Will it ever end!!!!!!! I am now getting exhausted with the prep work but continue telling myself "it's all about how well you prep" Ugh! Anyway, we are getting much closer, I have most of the car block sanded trying to get it as glass smooth as possible before shooting primer. I just spent a couple hours reading through Birdsmith personal paint thread and that helped me with a few questions that have popped up in my mind.
Trying to finish up along the bottom of the car all the way around, doors and jambs at this point. These areas are a real PITA but I will overcome! Ha! I would have posted some pics but nothing looks much diff than the last. I wish I could say I will be ready for primer this week but I have been saying that for several weeks now and not getting there when I set a goal so I will say when I get there I get there! It seems everyone is drawing on my time and slowing me down.
I have decided not to do a tricoat since I lost my painter but do plan on a metallic gray, I was thinking I still needed paint the car all together but I think Birdsmith painted his metallic in pieces so if anyone has some input there I would appreciate it.
Thanks!

Hey FC, yeah it is a boat load of work! If you wanted to paint the car together (with doors and hood on, you can pull the doors and hood, paint the jambs and the drip rail under the hood then put them back on to paint the car whole. I have heard that it's harder to get metalic and or pearl paint even if you have it blown apart, just a thought and I am certainly no painter...

Thanks for the encouragement AS! After 8 months of steady work I am starting to wear down but need to finish and enjoy for the Summer!
Did a little tonight but I have to figure out how to take the doors off now! Hahaha

Must finish the car, must finish the car, must finish the car....
