So, I think the “crane” is ready to go.

I mocked things up a bit. There’s a lot of slack that needs to be pulled out. But I can attend to that next weekend once I have my quorum.

I did test a test lift, like half an inch… it lifted the body easily. No scary noises.

Don’t forget to run a strap to support the front clip.
It looks like you still have a bunch of disassembling to do between now and next weekend.

Yeah. It’s a mock up. No point in having folks over next weekend if the concept doesn’t work. There’s still quite a way to go on the checklist.

The only issue I foresee (emphasis on foresee) is the rear valance, At some time the rear was damaged. The repair made is so that the valance was now no longer removable. I am worried that I will need to cut in order to clear the frame.

On my 73, it looks as if the body will come off with the rear valance in place.
There are also several grounds from the rear lights to the frame and if you have a rear window defroster there is a ground there.
Also on my 73 there was a ground attached to the bottom of the radiator support on the drivers side.
The connections from my ac to the condenser were pretty much welded together and I couldn’t break the nuts loose from the fittings.
I had to cut the tubing to get them disconnected.

Rear valance "must" be removed to raise the body.

Thanks gents. Printing all this out.

Hopefully I’ll be able to get away with not cutting into the body.

Awesome. A tremendous amount of clearance to work on this.

First inspection: very, very little rust on the frame.

Perfect fit.

So, the valance did hang and was slightly damaged.

Tomorrow I’ll get a closer look, but frankly… it’s encouraging.

So we ended with a BBQ. You gotta feed your crew !! I spent my entire morning cleaning up the bombshell of a mess of have 10 people partake. Grateful that these folks were there.

Quiet breakfast on the deck after tidying up. Weather is gorgeous. Birds are chirping.

Soon I’ll nip into the garage and take stock. I have yet to determine the extent of the rust. At first glance, the rust on rolling chassis look much less that I expected. There does seem to be some rust in the cage where the sill is. Not sure how to handle that one.

Any, I need to start listing everything I want addressed.

Looking at the exhaust, I think I might return that to stock configuration.

Pencil and notebook time.

Once you have the body off, the whole world opens up.

Can barely see the VIN

All of the mount locations look great.

This is where the rust was. This corner. It looks much better than I expected.

Top of my lis will be to shroud the wires and clean this up.

This explains the sagging seat I’m guessing. I have no idea how to fix this. I have never worked glass before.

Rust under sill. On cage.

Same one other side. I have no idea how I’m going to fix this either.
