Powdercoat, yes. Choice of color. Mmmm. I’m thinking a teal or a periwinkle.

More progress made

Clutch disc nearly new

Pressure plate, looking great.

Flywheel is good.

And the pièce de résistance, the runout of the bellhousing is at most 0.1 mm. That’s got to be within spec.

The T5 was snapped up today by a fellow Ford enthusiast.

Runout of bellhousing is at most 0.0039 and comfortably under 0.005. So, with those two ducks aligned project T5 replacement can go on.

I believe it’s because the welding you see on the chassis skips sections and the welds are not continuous.
You can easily see the un-welded or skipped sections in your picture.
Connecting the welds will add strength to the chassis.

Lovely day for hobbies.

This is the first time ever for me that pulling an engine was relaxing. I didn’t even need a Trappist beer.

I think it took me 30 minutes taking it very easy.

Getting closer to powdercoat.

You will be staying here for a while.

Wow. Going back in time.

Does this look straight to you ? The anti sway bar ?

Finding out that you need to have a very clean, rust free surface to work on.

I’m tempted to have the frame sandblasted to have a good surface to work on.

If you live in an area with high humidity you might end up sandblasting it twice if you don’t work fast.
Bare metal will rust almost instantly with a little humidity to help it along.

Yes. Agreed. I’m pretty much expecting that. Maybe the blaster can spray something on it to temporarily keep from rusting. At this point I do think it is necessary. It’ll save me a bunch of time prepping areas for welding. And, it will help me spot, and crucially not miss, areas that need work.

i think I’ll target the Fourth of July (as I have the day off) to drop off frame, or at least go over and talk to these good folks.

Bubba strikes again.

Why would you not bolt down the brake line to clamps ?

Tagging cables.

Interesting. Earl’s EFI 225 vapor lock’s outside layer does not like European E98. Inside seems fine.

Here’s one better Bubba install I found on mine.
Why wouldn’t you put the pin through the brake pedal arm?
I drive it this way for over six years.

Ooooooh dear ! I really have to wonder if these guys had a common thread - to not at all. I mean, it seems so frequent for these C3 corvettes to have been molested by bubba and co. I picture late teens early twenties (circa 1985) that snagged these cars when at lowest value and on a shoestring budget kept them running all the while being absolutely clueless.

The original and second owner of mine purchased good parts and paid big dollars to shops who they probably trusted to do the work right.
I know because they both kept all maintenance records and passed them down to me.
The installation and maintenance work was done poorly yet the owners continued to take the car to their trusted mechanics.
If the owners would have done any of the work themselves, they would have been embarrassed.

WHAT THE

Then again, I have a mechanic that I go to for jobs that I think are easy. He still botches them yet I keep coming back for more He’s the guy, to stop a rattle, that booger welded my exhaust hangers to the frame in such a way that I had to grind them off to drop my muffs.

Will post a pic of something else he did when I get back from London

When the prior owner swapped the interior from saddle to black, whoever installed all the new panels used wood screws instead of oem hardware. The screws were black and even I couldn’t tell until I stripped the interior.
