The Force Awakens...
It turns out that 3 out of 4 ball joints are either very notchy or feel too loose.
I don’t get it. These are three years old and hardly saw any road use.
The will have to be replaced… all of them, while I’m at it. I’ll check the tie rod ends today as well. I hope at least they are fine.
I’m a little concerned about my tubular uppers. These look like OEM style ball joints. I hope they are.
As everyone here on this forum knows, when painting parts, prep is everything. As POR-15 recommends their marine clean and metal prep, might as well.
The illustrious POR-15. Do NOT get this stuff on your skin !!!
High pressure spray first.
Scrub, scrub, scrub.
The metal prep leaves some kind of residue.
Same.
Trying to avoid too much contact to minimize touch ups.
A silent observer
These came out quite well. A few touch ups will be needed.
One problem cropped up, one of the bars squeaks and is quite tight. I should have checked if it was like this prior to the paint job. I can’t recall if I put polyurethane in there. I think I did for front. Rear is rubber IIRC. I’ll run off the bolts later today to see if there is something i can do to minimize the binding. This morning I will be going to a car show. I’ll document that as well linking from here to the general section.
I got it on my skin.
Ordered ball joints etc from Summit. Here in 10 days.
As for Cars ‘n’ Coffee, see here: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...um-2023-a.html
All made in USA
A new pump. Better grease and a positive locking nozzle.
Been wanting to install this for a while.
Installed. No more worrying about deformation of the cradle. And tow eyes.
And this. I think it might need washers between the frame and crossmember.
Springs did not maim or otherwise kill me. That’s always a plus. Seems a bit high, but I imagine that with the engine installed it will come down some.
Enough for tonight. Always best to end on a positive accomplishment

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
Some kind of nasty gunk painted on this.
Took me several hours to get most of it off.
Stamp seems to indicate 1978. I think it’s a 3.55:1.
Looks clean
Little wear.
I’m think best not to mix these up.
Clean. No wear.
Says someone was in here before.
Looks fine.
Looks in good condition
Late here. I’ll pop the carrier out tomorrow. The plan is to replace the stub axle seals and move the ring gear over a tick to the right to tighten up the backlash. Everything else seems fine. I won’t monkey with it
The races look immaculate. I think this was recently rebuilt. Or has very few miles on it. Nonetheless, I’ve decided that I’m not going to monkey with the pinion and its seal. The stub axle seals look fine, but I will replace them. I will also scoot the carrier over to reduce the lash. I feel it while driving and it is enough to bother me.

Lash is around...
.005. That's tight, but I expect that will open up a little. Definitely feels much better than it did. Let's hope that I didn't screw this up and there will be no noise.
Contact pattern seems fine.
Checking again...
I should have bought this set ages ago
Fresh seals
Mostly done.
3-2-1 OUT !!!

Here we go again. 90% prep…
10% POR-15. I am pleased with the results.
Back in.
This gets the Kewpie Doll for ugliest OEM weld.
The Mrs. Pleased with her hobby if not hubby

What can I say ? This went in so easily. Parts are clean !!! It was like joygasms.
Looking good.
A small mod for rear. I think I’ll be pleased about this.
More progress
The first time in weeks and months that I backed out the frame on wheels. #exciting
Very pleased.

Another reason I did this frame off. To replace the original 50-year-old fuel and brake lines with new stainless. I used clamps to hold line as I straightened it.
Easier than I expected.
I suppose this is fine as not under the body.

I’ll say it again, it’s such a pleasure to work on a clean car/frame and components and the access !!!!!!
