The C8 rear view mirror with camera function is incredible. It takes a little getting used to having to focus closer, feels a bit odd, but the visibility it gives you vs the tiny little bit of tunnel vision through the glass is fantastic.
Right up until the point that it stops working. I consider my vehicle to still be in the break-in period since I haven't hit 1500mi yet.
My mirror started to flicker. Started showing some brief black horizontal lines. Then the screen would flash black rapidly, but still show a picture. Then all of a sudden I get a full blue screen with a NO CAMERA and a little hand icon telling me to flip the visor up.
Since the screen appears to still be active, I suspect the part that failed was my camera or something between the mirror processor and the rear camera. It was working fine and then within the span of about 30 minutes from noticing the glitches it went to full useless.
If I stop the car and shut everything off, wait for the interior electronics to shut off, then re-enter the car the mirror/camera works again, but only for a couple minutes before BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH occurs. Top left corner is NO CAMERA icon Middle icon (sorry blurry) is a picture of a hand flipping the visor lever.
You've found the issue! GM seems to be hiring ex-Microsoft Windows coders to do their firmware!
It's a sports car with a WICKED blind spot problem. Have you driven one?
The electronic mirror is a necessity, IMHO. When it fails, your lane changes are quite a bit more risky.
Maybe you don't care about little things like bikers on the road....
Having driven a couple other mid engine "exotics" the blind spot isn't any worse than them

you made me LOL. When I saw the first reference to the blue screen of death on the rear view mirror it brought me back to my days of throwing code for the windows api. I grinned realizing somebody had a technology background.
I backed my 2020 out of the garage at 3 PM.today. It was 119 F...48 C. Before I backed off the apron, I got my first ever message on the dash. It was on and off quickly, but I swear it looked like WTF.

I've seen this before on Intel computer chips. If you have software to dig in far enough, you get some interesting messages "written" by the programmers for those who get "in far enough".
A "WTF" message was likely there and created "inside a chip" monitoring ambient temperatures. When high enough, it would not surprise me at all that some "wise guy" programmer added a quick WTF message to be displayed.
Hilarious!

1) When closing the top, side passenger window closes then auto-reverses 2 inches. Even after the top is closed, the 1click auto-close will close then auto-reverse until I hold the button to override the auto-reverse function. I never lost battery power, auto-close and indexing still work fine. Regardless, I tried reprogramming the windows numerous times but it still happens every time I open then close the top. Anyone else have same issue?
Snip
I’ve experienced this issue twice now. Same no loss of battery power to cause this. I reindex after the first time and it didn’t reoccur for a couple weeks.

Believe it or not, I have done embedded systems engineering using a variety of OS including VxWorks, Custom RTOS, and "Microsoft Windows" (they even have some embedded editions). On Windows I had a lot of fun writing VxD drivers for some custom hardware my company developed (mostly in FPGA). I was pretty much the only engineer in our team that knew how to write drivers in assembly language or that desired to. Not a real fan of BSOD's... who knew I would see one on my car rear view mirror.
I was thinking they could have chosen a little bit different color to avoid the ensuing criticism this will get. At least it doesn't include a stack trace!

Not saying it is worse the other mid engines, just saying it has a pretty significant blind spot when compared to cars in general.
Went to dealer today and they said there were no codes in the system related to my mirror and it was working the whole time, so there is nothing they can do with it until it fails again. Working theory right now is water got into the wiring harness near the camera. We dont think it is heat related because on the day that it failed it was raining all day and right when I left it was pretty much torrential rain. So heat wouldn't be a factor, but water could have been. Now that it has all dried out, camera is working fine. Looking at the wiring coming out of the B pillar, it appears to have a bend in it, but not really a drip loop and it looks to me like water could wick down the cable and move along due to surface tension and make its way into the camera potentially under the right circumstances. I am going to try hitting it with a water hose and see if I can reproduce the issue. The car SHOULD have no issues with external water causing cameras to shut down (assuming not submerged in water!)
Also they said there was a RECALL on the OTA that went out for the Infotainment system. So they hooked up a programmer/device and re-flashed the firmware on the vehicle. Apparently the update that went out causes all sorts of weird things to happen on the infotainment screen, including flashing messages / symbols ("triangles I believe the tech said"). So maybe this is related to the "WTF?" message. Makes me wonder if the firmware got tainted by someone ala SolarWinds. Wouldn't that be a riot! Hacker causes C8's to suddenly go to wide-open-throttle and then fully apply the brakes. (it's all drive by wire, not outside the realm of possibilities).
Going on seven weeks trying to get transmission replaced. It had a leaking transmission casing. One of four leaking transmissions that I know about so far.
I was at a dealership today and there were 2 cars with leaky housings. Their head Corvette tech said that the MY 22’s will get trannys with beefier housings that are thicker on the front end, with stronger internals rated for higher horsepower (Z06 maybe?).

Emelia Hartford must be the luckiest early adopter out there. That said, I think she should have sold for their 150k offer, given how much abuse she has given that car.
Looks like a new one sitting there on the pallet. What are they waiting for to install it?

The new one in the crate was installed today. The tech is trying to get everything completed and tested by the end of the week. The car has been in the dealership since May 13th. I got the car from MM on April 17th. It went in for service with 2126 miles. So the dealership has had the car longer than I have.
I first noticed two large spots of oil on the cardboard under the car. I initially thought that maybe it was left there by my previous C7. I flipped the cardboard around and checked it later and found the same two spots of oil in front of the wheels on the clean cardboard. When I looked under the rear bumper the entire under belly pan was covered in oil. So I took it to the dealership. When I backed it out of the driveway, it left a string of oil on the driveway.
Can you you tell me which dealership has the two cars with leaking transmissions and whether they are 2020’s or 2021’s. It would be wonderful if the replacement transmission is the newer beefier, stronger version but most likely it is not. This stronger version might not be available for awhile. 2022’s will not start production until September. With the two that you talk about, this makes six total confirmed leaking transmissions.
I’m not sure how I can demand an extended warranty or anything else from the dealership or GM for replacing the transmission under warranty.
Old Jedi……..I am so sorry to hear about your issue. I know it has to be quite a let down after waiting so long for your car. Hang in there my friend and thanks for sharing and giving us all a heads up on something to watch for.
^^^^^ Thanks, I have to admit that it is very disheartening and disappointing! So far I have been able to verify six cars that needed to have their transmission replaced. So out of 30,000 Corvettes, it is a very small number. Never the less, it is still disheartening. Right now I’m just hoping that the installation is done correctly and the car does not have any other problems. Thanks for the kind words.
