I'm running a littlee low on my photobucket bandwidth so i will post up pics of the finished mold tomorrow.
NOOOOOOO!!!! You're gonna make me wait a whole nother day!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
LOL!!!
I still personally think that your second shroud looks awesome, and since I am the guy that is actually paying for it, that is all that matters as far as I am concerned. Again, kudo's to you for your effort and offering these to us at a reasonable (relative) price.
I take it all the fuss about the C6 headlights is about thee small curve on the top of the projectors (outlined here in blue)
This is the only significant difference i can see betweeen the C6 shroud and mine. I did notice there is a space on the revised shroud design for about 1" of curvature shroud extension. I'll see what I can cook up tomorrow. it should be the last day of fiberglassing.
Regarding turn signals: The only real option i've been able to come up with is an LED strip installed under the lens. If the lens is painted it will hide the LED strip from view and it will hardly be visible from the front until energized.
Here's what it would look like. (all I had in the correct size for the strip was blue)
Flash on to show LED strip location
Flash off to show brightness
Wiring could be easily run down the side of the light itself.
Revised shrouds: (bondo-ed and sanded)
The real big pain for today was trying to find a way to makee the shrouds thermoform-able. The challange was to make the shroud so a thermoformed sheet could be removed without wrapping itself around the shroud making it impossible to remove it. Still tinkering with that
As to covering the lights during the day, if this makes any money, I want a slice. How about having the lens be treated with the optically variable stuff like what is used for the auto-sun-glasses. So during the day it is clouded out but is clear at night. Just an idea I have had for a while.
^ Lol, that's a cool idea. However I know that's expensive to do in glasses, I cant imagine how much it would be to coat both lenses for this application.
Personally I think one of the biggest and easiest improvements that could be made to better match the C6 would be to add a trim piece to the end of the projectors and allow the end trim piece to be exposed.

Wouldn't it go dark again as soon as you turned on the headlights?
Just for the record, it's lens, without the 'e' on the end!

Yes, George, in your case that's always been obvious. I have a couple of keyboards on other machines around the office that have sticky keys. (Royal pain in the...)
My comment was in response to those who said they were never sure if it was 'lens' or 'lense.' I was attempting to answer the question in a humorous way. No offense or criticism (of anyone) was intended.
Moving right along...how long will it be before you offer a "phaser" option on your Light Cannons? That would be extremely useful when idiots cut you off in traffic!
The Projectors are weather sealed however the lens does offer both aerodynamic advantages, is easier to clean road film off of and IMO painted ABS doesn't look the same as the rest of the car's body.
The shaping I was talking about was more like the C6's above-the-projector area, but the Zonda proves my point. There's no way a half-million dollar supercar that goes as fast as it does did NOT have wind tunnel testing. It's reasonable to conclude that the aerodynamic impact of no lens (thanks for the clarification ) is neglible.
Road grime?? Ok... Maybe you have something on the ABS point, but my point is, you'd have a much nicer looking final product (which most here seem to agree) with some C6-style shaping. If that means losing the lens, and thereby dropping the cost significantly, I doubt you'd have too many objection. You'd sell a heckuva lot more at the lower price point, and it would look far nicer.
George, I'm not trying to criticize your work. You've obviosly got some fabrication skills. But take it from someone with a design background (remember you didn't believe me when I said the BPP lense bulged a little) and also from someone with a good deal of business experience: change your paradigm, alter the design slightly, and you'll have a much nicer finished product and make a lot more money.

THAT would be a great reason to have a lens. It's definitely doable, since it reacts with UV light (as opposed to visible or IR). I'm sure it woldn't be cheap, though.
I would surmise that most people (myself included) are not willing to put up a large non-refundable deposit when the final price may vary by 50%. At $1000 I am very interested. At $1500 I would have to reconsider.
I would have to agree. You are on the right track but I need to see a final product before making a "non refundable" deposit. The determining factor for me would be that the cover lens would have to fit the contour of the car with no bulge. That is basically what is wrong with most current kits and why I have not purchased anything. I have tinkered with some prototype ideas myself, just have not found the time to get them to completion. You are on the right track. Again, I would like to see a finished product mounted on a vehicle.

George, please stay with your current design. If I wanted C6 lights on my C5 (or anything that resembled them), I would go out and buy a C6. Again I think your shroud design look awesome. Ignore the nay sayers.

Flyer, you could perhaps offer this as an option?? I would consider these as potentially my first pick too...both for appearance and cost reduction. I would put a chrome or color matched bezel on the light like the C6 though. Just another voice. Love your work
