The car has been running great with no problems and have about 2800 miles on it. This weekend, a friend and I decided to take our M7 C7s out in the country and run some back roads with lots of turns. I decided to try the Track mode for the first time. We ran for about 15-20 mins, 3rd and 4th gear, speeds up to 60mph, RPMs no where near the red line. Stopped for a while and notice an oil leak under my car. Popped the hood and saw oil sprayed all over the right side of the engine. This photo shows the oil spill. The main spot is about 12 inches across. The other spots are from the oil dripping off different areas of the engine bay.
Got the car to a bay with a lift and jacked up and cleaned up as much oil as we could, but couldn't find the leak. When I revved the engine up and got the oil pressure above 40psi, it started leaking again, but couldn't pinpoint where it was coming from.
This morning I found this small puddle under the car.
The car is at dealer now and they are trying to find the leak. They think is is coming from the "air breather?" Anyone heard of this before? They are going to contact GM for information. Will keep you informed about what they find out.
Ask the dealer to look at the water pump. Yes water pumps can leak oil. Had he same thing happen to a new Impala. Had everybody stumped for a while.
Hello! Sorry it has taken so long for the update, I wanted to talk to GM before I posted anything.
So basically the engine is seized, they cannot get it to turn over no matter what they do. They do not know why it is seized. GM had a new engine shipped to the dealership, ready to install, the day after we found out the engine was toast. I told the dealer to hold off on installing the engine for several reasons:
• I am worried that because the techs do not know the root cause of the engine failure, a new engine may not fix the root problem, leading to more down time, and another safety issue
• the engine failure was a huge safety concern. I lost all control of the vehicle, no power steering no power brakes, no airbags. another engine failure would be unacceptable
• I do not want to have any other problems with the vette and have to pursue a car replace via lemon law, my dad does not have the time for this, i bought this car for him so he could drive it, not wait
• techs do not know the root cause! did the electronics fry the engine, or did the engine fry the electronics? I do not know and GM does not know
I thought about this for awhile. I have asked GM to put in writing that if the new engine goes into the car and I have another single problem with either the engine, or the electronic issues related to the engine management system, that they agree to a new car, right then and there. My worse fear is that there could be gremlins that plague the care after the engine swap. I am asking GM to step up and replace the car, and not require us to adhere to the timeline that the lemon law states (30 days in shop, or 4 repairs for the same thing). My dad does not have time for this. GM is supposed to get back to me about this request Tuesday or Wednesday of this week. So far all they have said is that "We will do the right thing".
I authorized the engine swap today, should be all buttoned by the end of this week, early next week. I will keep you posted.
Brian
Brian, you are correct in assuming that once a car becomes a problem, (in this case, -a big problem), ... that sometimes because of the inter-relationship of all systems it's very difficult to ever achieve satisfaction. I had a Mercedes 200D that froze up. Before finally freezing, (the car was burning out a battery every month), two dealers determined that they could not find the problem and did not know what was causing the battery problem. The problem was a bad oil pump. It was producing about 70% of the required pressure. All main bearings were down to bronze metal. You might ask the dealer to check your oil pump and pressure.
At the request of members, I am creating this thread for ACTUAL owners to post about ACTUAL problems. This will get all of the issues together in one location and allow other owners and would be owners to learn about the issues that owners are experiencing or discovering.
What's allowed:
Factual accounts of issues you encounter as a real owner of a real car. Provide as much detail and documentation as you are able to talk about the issue.
Factual accounts or updates regarding resolution of issues that you or your dealer provided to solve a problem with your Stingray. If you solve a problem and post a separate update, please edit your original post that it was resolved and refernce the post with the update if possible.
What's not allowed (This will be strictly enforced):
Anecdotal comments about first year models.
Comments about other model year Corvettes (even if they may relate to current equipment.)
Stories or issues you read about on other forums.
Posting about a problem "your friend" had with their car.
Posting that "your car is fine" or "I didn't have that problem."
The intent of this thread is to collect data and provide information for people who own a 2014 Corvette Stingray. Hopefully we will see both problems and resolutions and allow a place for folks to learn how to deal with issues that they encounter. If you can provide content information
(equipment group, options, etc.) about your car that would be welcome. If you can provide photos of the issue or video of the behaviour, that would be welcome. If are willing to post your VIN number, that would be helpful so that others with VIN's in a nearby range can relate.
Let's see if we can keep this thread on topic and make it a useful place for new and would be owners to learn what is going on.
Has anyone had a problem with a "frozen" touchscreen? The left/right icons won't move it, nor will swiping the screen.
Problem getting infotainment center to do all it claims it can do. To date, we (dealer and me) can't make it interact with iPhone when receiving or sending messages. Phone will connect for calls but won't do the email thing. Also, Pandora plays on the media button but not on the Pandora button. It says "no Internet connection" when you push that button. Sometimes we can't hear the radio and volume button does not work for some minutes after activated. Dealer thought the lack of emails and messages may be because of iPhone and he thought Android would work. Anyone know anything about this?
Picked up my brand new C7 convertible yesterday. Had the learn your car tutorial, drove home, 3 miles. Put the top down. A couple of hours later went for a ride, car is beeping and the message is, top manual only!
I wasn't trying to put it back up but every 2 mins or so, beeping and message. I stopped and wanted to put the top up.. Nothing.
Beeping and same manual only message. Brought it back to the dealership, service closed but the sales mgr who went to Corvette school attempted to help.btw, could not open the trunk with the fob or the button. Top still not going up. Took apart the fob and opened the trunk manually. Closed the trunk. Top still inoperable. A sales guy said he read on the internet to hold the top up/down button for 5 seconds to get a beep, but easily held it for minutes, and after the chime, it appeared to be working properly.
Fast forward to today, going for a drive, wanted to out the top down..beeping and would not operate at all, same message! Smart as I am, I hold the button down and up, 3 minutes each way to no avail.
Brought the car back to the dealer and left it there. The car has 24 miles on it and been back to the dealership twice for this issue. It's a power top, it's supposed to go up and down. It sounds like a chronic issue and I'm very PO'd at what should not be an issue!
My dealer said to bring it in for an oil change at 5000 miles. Never mentioned oil life. They ended up changing the oil at 2800 miles due to an oil leak I posted about earlier, so I'll have to find out if I still need to bring it in at 5000 miles.

Picked up the car and no more leaks so far, although, I'll need to take it out and run it hard to see if it starts leaking again. Seems there have been so many calls about this issue that a bulletin was issued, #3750988. Directs the dealer to remove the air filter assembly and clean it all out, replace the air filter and change the oil/oil filter. They also cleaned up the engine and the engine bay.

Haven't heard of this. Would this cause the oil in the air filter assembly?

Yes. The screen had to be replaced. Happened when the car was brand new so it took a while for me to make sure it was the screen and not something that I was doing or not doing.
Sorry UR having the same problem.

Plug the phone into USB port and everything will work. Not plugged in it will be Bluetooth.
My car was built in October and I haven't been able to access txt messages either. I was told a new radio would be available for exchange but haven't heard anything on it yet. Does anyone with a later model have that feature? I have a 'Droid.

I noticed some people complain about the smell in there corvette. I was lucky to not have this but after I got my oil change I can smell it. Yes I know after a oil change if they spill it you can smell it but I drove it around 400 miles and still smell a oil smell. Its a hit or miss not always there but I got headaches whenever I smell it. Anyone else have this problem? I have to take my car next week to get something fixed on it I will let them look at this . They are replacing the torque tube because a bearing is out and it makes a aweful loud noise, over all I love this car. andddd I got the infortainment center changed out because it was freezing up on me and so far no problems with new one.
It may be beneficial for other forum members to know the last 5 digits of your VIN, as I have had my torque tube/driveshaft assembly replaced 2 times. Both times it sounded like the front driveshaft bearing was going out. As previously posted on this forum, my VIN is 01134, so if forum members know your VIN, those in between you and I will have a higher probability of incurring the same problem and can therefore be watchful for it. Expect your dealership to have your car for about a week, because a lot has to be dismantled in order to get at the tt/ds assembly. I have now put 1500 miles on the latest tt/ds assembly, and all is fine.

Vin 1115 with 2400 miles - No problems with the torque tube.
Just loving it!

last 5 digits is 04349, supposedly to replace the torkque tube it will take a couple hours. they actually took the torque tube out and was going to replace it but the one they had didn't have the bearings inside of it. the sound is very loud and very aggravating.
Anyone had the oil smell after a oil change? After driving nearly 400 miles any oil that was spilled while changing the oil has to be burnt off by now.
