I manage to go to the shop today and machine the chunk of steel to mate with the 4L60E case........

My next trip will be to machine the other end to mate with the 4L60 mechanical speedo-housing....drill/tap bolt holes....machine flats on the adapter.

I'm back at home after attending a conference in Florida.

I made a quick trip to the garage to disassemble the drums in the 4L60E transmission/I'm still trying to learn the terminology for the individual pieces.
I had to fabricate a $120 spring compressor to disassemble the drums/

REVERSE somethin'/somethin'.......

MAIN SERVO somethin'......

FORWARD somethin'/somethin'

I will order a Seal/O-ring Overhaul Kit this week and reassemble the Reverse Drum and output shaft.
Then I will be able to verify the thickness of the adapter I am machining for the new tailshaft housing to make sure the speedometer Drive gear and the Driven gear mesh.

Meanwhile I still need to install the weatherstrip pieces for the deck lid......

"While I was at it".....

I just updated the last FORTY pages of "The Table of Contents" in my thread........

just in case anyone needs to know HOW NOT TO DO SOMETHING!

9/10/2013.................

NOTE: When I started this thread, I had no idea of what life had in store...so this is turning into more than a build-thread.

I'm new to Corvettes and want to buy a very neglected '68 convertible near my home with late '70s front & rear bumpers....

Side note: I've had the "fever" since 1968 when I saw that $4,550 red Corvette on the showroom floor at the local dealership.....and ended up with the $2,695 1969 Camaro convertible that was sitting next to the Corvette!

I'm not trying to "restore" to a factoy look since the car is a "basket-case" vehicle......I have no bodywork experience.....just want to get the body back to 1968-looks....and have a D.D./keeper just for me.....

Thanks for any input/threads-to-read...since I'm learning as I go....

Some of the experimental mods that I try on this car would NEVER EVER be tried by me on an original car!

Apart is the easy part. I take stuff apart all the time. Its pretty cool that when I put stuff back together I find all the extra parts that the engineers threw in there that wasnt needed. Most thing make alot of noise afterwards though...dont know why

In 40 years I've collected a quart jar of "left-over" parts.....as soon as I remember where they fit...I'll (re)install them...(I red that somewhere)

but....so far....everything is still working without 'em.

(I am learning that the camera remembers everything)

It wont be moving...I'll never hit it.

Well
....I have a choice between a $500 transmission controller......and a $60 gizmo that I have to learn how to write a program for. I'd rather do TWO rebuilds that write a program ("Old Dog/New Tricks" )

So...what Ima gonna do is do dry rebuilds on the trans using the original parts until I get the time down to One/1 hour

Annnnd I'll villeo it to prove it happened

as easy as it is becoming to find 4l60 and 4l80 trans it may be better to use them with a standalone controller over a 700r that may have been redone 5 or 6 times...
